For Canadians with the daytime running lights, any methods to fool the system into thinking that the fogs are functioning? The warning/idiot lights come on at start up and the exclamation light remains on as the system senses that the main fogs are not plugged in.
If the site will allow me to post pics I will.
Amazing product
What kind of warning / error message are you getting? Did you install them as DRL or the plug and play method? I wired mine up with the one wire method and my buddy wired his up with the 2 wire method. Both do not generate any errors and we're both Canadian spec.

Nice set!
What kind of hood covering is that, or is it carbon fibre hood - if so, from where?

Thanks for the reminder Joe everything is fine. Took the car out for the first time today and after inflating the tires, warnings settled. It had been sitting in the garage since end of November. I went 25 km and it purrs now. What a pleasure this car is to drive after five months.

I left the hook up the way it was before the mod. The led bar is connected to the fog lights and I installed a pair of 9 led smd BAX9, same color as the led bar. I did not cut any wires, I made adapters, the installation is 100% reversible. John's gril is still on waiting to see what comes up . I wish I would join the pee wee league. I would program the fogs as DRL and headlights off.

Hmm that's odd but if you're going to add a resistor anyways to the plug and play method, you might as well rewire them as DRL from the hot heater wire. I used the one wire method so I could still plugged them in.

Finally installed the spars (as DRL's), these are the first prototypes that feature PorscheMesh. Fit well, look great!

Got mine a while ago, but just installed this weekend. The increased visibility is literally night and day, and I already have the Xenons.
Installation was a breeze, although you gotta be very careful with the lighter I'd you don't have a heat gun.

Re: Cayman LED Spars with Radiator Guards (fits 2006-2008) Group Buy

I just ordered mine. It looks like a great product. But Damn, I didn't know the group buy was gonna be over since i have been out of town for 1 month. I didn't realize i was paying $419 until i purchased it. I bet I'm the only sucker to have bought this at $419. I definitely would have been happier with $369

Just got mine installed today and to be honest, I would have paid $419 for these (even though I didn't). They seriously make the car look like a newer model and so worth the $$$. Great product!

But the GB started in December of last year, so being out of town the last month isn't much of an excuse to miss the group buy. I'm pretty sure Joe has yet to see a nickel of profit on this deal, so the introductory price could not last forever.
I sure hope you enjoy these spars. They are pretty special, I think everyone agrees.

That is how they are set up (daytime running lights). They are activated with ignition/ACC on. I am going to try the resistor and see. just not sure where to find the correct resistors.

Hello DmanS,

I'm not sure what's different about your car's LCM but it appears if it's looking for a different resistance value. I'd order 2 #RL-2525 (they come complete with 3M Scotchtite connectors) available here: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...l#loadresistor . Initially, I'd try one (1) resistor for both the driver's and passenger's side combined and if that isn't enough, I'd add the second. You never know, too much resistance may give a warning as well.

Here is a link describing wiring them in: http://www.superbrightleds.com/pdfs/...istor_info.pdf . Also, picture #1 on post #624 (above) shows a 3M Scotchtite connector in use on the read (12v+) wire.

Please keep in mind that the resistor will get pretty hot, hence the large aluminum heat-sink construction. To play it safe, I'd install the resistor on metal. I'd drill one 1/8" hole and pop-rivit the resistor to the sheet metal tub hanging in a vertical orientation on the passenger's side of the front lid latch (under the easy-to-remove front trunk trim).

I've attached a sketch illustrating an install method that worked for another Cayman owner that was getting lamp warning light.

Best regards,

Joe

Joe -

Looks like you're getting caught up on your Spar LED orders......just wondering if you've had any more thoughts or progress on the taillight design, or even if you have a tentative timetable?

Speaking for lots of us here, I'm sure!

I just launched my 2005-2008 Boxster LED Spars with Radiator Guards interest survey (see: http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...st-survey.html ) and will further explore the LED taillights as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Hello gatornapper,

Thank you for asking! And yes, I'm continuing with the development. My progress again is dependent on a few vendors quoting pricing for a specific process so I'm unable to forecast a timeline at present.

Best regards,

Joe

Hey Joe,
Any progress to report on adding the LED Spars for Boxster Gen 1 to your portfolio?
Thanks

1. Find the passenger washer heater (see my article for photos)
2. locate the orange/black wire to the heater and splice in a 6ft piece of wire using one of those splicers that cut and crimp the wire automatically.
3. Feed this new power wire down the side of the front trunk until you get close to the passenger headlight.
4. Splice another wire to the original wire, about 2ft will do. This new short wire will go to the passenger LED, while the original wire will feed across the front of the trunk to the driver's LED.
5. Don't cut anything on the LEDs.
6. Fit the LED into to OEM socket for the parking lights on each side.
7. Now, starting with the passenger side, find the red (+ve) wire going to the parking light socket.
8. Cut this wire, only. Leave the negative wire to the socket intact.
9. Splice the new wire from the washer heater to this wire at the socket.
10. You can tape over the cut end of the wire to the socket that is left dangling, just to ensure it doesn't contact a ground, or get wet. I'd suggest some shrink tubing, but you can use rubber tape or similar.
11. Repeat for the driver's side.

To summarize, this method leaves the wiring to the washer heater intact. It uses the socket fixture designed by Joe for the spars. It cuts the power wires to the parking lights, but leaves the negative/ground wire intact.

Stand back and drool... There's no doubt these spars change the look entirely. I LOVE it.
I have rewired mine to run as DRLs. @Phil, thanks for the writeup.

Hello michaelwalker123,

With only 36 votes "yes" spread out over three (technically two) versions on the Revised 2005-2008 Boxster LED Spars with Radiator Guards interest survey (see http://www.planet-9.com/cayman-boxst...st-survey.html ), it's unlikely I can establish enough interest to proceed.

This isn't a final decision, it just doesn't look very promising.

Thank you!

Joe
