I'm from the "old school" too. I like 100% cotton used towels & wash them after each use. I hand buff on Arctic Silver, than wipe over the car with a damp clean towel.
Been using Meguiar's Hi-Tec Yellow paste wax #26. Beads good for 3-4 months. Car garaged & only washed with water unless covered with road scum from rain etc.

BEWARE OF AUTO ZONE!!!! As a first timer I wasted 75 bucks on their garbage. The microfiber towels I bought were terrible. The polish cloths were also complete trash. They also sell fake- low end Zymol which is not the same stuff. Take the time to buy stuff from Griots, Auotpia, or any number of other specailty houses. The Mcguires stuff they sell is OK but I would avoid any towels or cloth products like the plague.

I agree. Was a big fan of "natural" terry, but have been converted to micro. But there is cheap micro and fantastic micro. Personally, on a $65K car, I wouldn't fool with less expensive cloths, at a place like AutoZone. Their terry may be 100% cotton, but be sure the binding and stitching is 100% cotton as well...anything else might scratch. IMHO, spring for the best micro towels you can get...they last a long time, and are just terrific for a car finish.

Microfiber and cotton each have their own place. Some waxes & polishes are better removed with cotton. Griot's fine hand polish is one of those.

I also use cotton for drying and for fast shine or when I use paint clay. Otherwise, I use microfiber - like when buffing off wax.
