whole exhaust system clean/polish

apart from the exhaust tips it seems that a lot of soot/dirt appears on the side barrels which i think are part of the exhaust system. not sure what they are called but the metal large barrel like parts under the trunk and each side of the exhaust... my car has 19 inch wheels and as its higher these seem more visible than on other crocs. noticed yeday they are filthy as is the exhaust pipe. Has anyone cleaned / polished this? and if so how?

I've polished a Borla system. It was a huge undertaking. I probably spent 16+ hours on the project.

I thought of polishing my stock system, when it was off my car. That would also be a lot of work, and it would shine like a mirror. But it wouldn't last. The best long term solution would be to take it off, lightly sand it with 300-400 grit, then spray it with high temp flat black paint.

Re: whole exhaust system clean/polish

That was my thought exactly. Going to be a realllllly looooong process to give it a high polish. You can always just clean it up a little though. All Purpose Cleaner would be a good start. You can also do a metal polish once you get the light debris cleaned up, just to give it a little extra bump in appearance
I'd go optimum metal polish or Metal Polish Restorer.
Metal and chrome polishes

I went old school and used this method: Buffing & Polishing Metal - My Articles

It's a lot of work, but it provides results that are otherwise impossible to achieve.

The results are outstanding though! Its tough to appreciate the work involved in something like that until you actually attempt to do it on your own. Impressive
