Should I Zaino?

Hi everyone. I bought my CS (CPO) last Saturday and was planning on doing a big Zaino next week. I was going to do the Dawn wash, then Z2/ZFX, followed by Z6. I was going to do this two or three times. It rained a lot today and I noticed that water beaded up a lot on the CS. It was day and night compared to my 4Runner, which I have neglected for over two years. I've attached two iPhone pictures of it.

So my question is: should I be Zainoing at all? Should I just start with a water only wash and Zaino on top of whatever is on there? Any advice would be appreciated. I believe the car was detailed before I picked it up from the dealer.

Re: Should I Zaino?

Personally, I would wait a little bit of time (few weeks) to take advantage of the Dealers detailing, and then I would redo it from scratch - Dawn wash, then Zaino. I would not put your high quality Zaino on top of something that you really do not know what it is.

Re: Should I Zaino?

Maybe a Mr. Clean wash only? I'm getting my cover on Monday so I sort of want to do something (weather permitting) for it! I've never used the Mr. Clean system but have read favorable reviews.

Re: Should I Zaino?

Mr. Clean system is pretty nice
I’ve never used it on my CS but I have on my other cars.
When I use the Mr. Clean system I usually wash the car with regular auto shampoo and scrub off all the dirt with an extra soft auto brush and spray off the car with water.
I then use the Mr. Clean system pretty much without any sponges.
Drying is very easy with the Mr.Clean system
As for Zaino I got the 100 kit and followed all of the instructions and really like it
I think last time I drove my CS in rain similar to the one you have on the pics, the car was completely dry in about 2 hrs. without any water spots!

Re: Should I Zaino?

I think its up to you whether or not you want to do the process now, or wait, since theres apparently already some protection on there. When you do apply the zaino, I'd say to start from scratch. Although I dont use zaino, I think its picky with what it will adhere to, and not knowing what the dealer applied, I'd say to just start from scratch Congrats on the purchase and enjoy it!

Re: Should I Zaino?

Enjoy the car for a week or two with the dealers detailing, then set aside some time to do the Zaino process. Dawn wash, clay, then 1 or more coats of Z5 to get rid of any swirl marks, then multiple coats of Z2 to shine and protect. It's worth the time spent in looks and protection.

Re: Should I Zaino?

I've decided to just wait. It's going to rain pretty much this whole week anyway. My cover gets here tomorrow, and if it's dry at the time I'll go ahead and cover her up. I have two weeks off starting the 11th so sometime towards the end I'll do the whole thing, clay bar, Z5, Z2, Z6. I have the Z2, do you guys think that's enough, or should I get the z5 too?

Also, if I clay bar (I should do it, right?), I just rinse it w/ water, then clay bar w/ lubricant, then dawn wash, right? I don't need to do a dawn wash both before and after clay, do I? Or should I dawn wash, then clay, then Z7 (that's what the Zaino site says, so I guess there is my answer. I just don't have Z7 and don't know if it's a must have. I'm ordering the clay bar so I can easily add the Z5 and Z7 if you guys think I should do it.) Thanks!

Fwiw, I would be careful covering up the car if its pretty dirty. The cover is going to move over the surface alot when you put it on and take it off, along w/ blowing in the wind and you dont want any debris on the car to possibly scratch it. I know when I put covers on mine, I try to do it after washing so its at least on a clean surface. Maybe that's just me being a little too cautious though

Also, not sure if its just how it was typed out, but before you clay, you need more than just a rinse w/ water.
When you're ready to detail, I would go in this order. Wash (dawn or citrus based soap to strip the wax), clay (using plenty of clay lube), rewash (doesnt have to be w/ dawn), but I like to rewash to remove any clay residue or particles that may have loosened up that the clay didnt grab. Then go ahead and proceed w/ the zaino products you plan to use. Again, I unfortunately cant comment on which ones you should use or can skip, but I'm sure others can chime in w/ that info

Re: Should I Zaino?

This is the kit that I purchase I pretty much used all of the applications in the right order

Zaino Total Protection Show Car Kit: Zaino Store

Like Chris said you have to wash the car twice
So on the first day I would wash the car with dawn, clay then wash again with Zaino.
You can then cover the car every little particle should be off
Next day you can do the applications.
Don’t forget to add in the time for cleaning your rims
If you clean the insides/back of the rims like most of us do pls add additional 2 hrs.
Enjoy

Re: Should I Zaino?

I just did this the weekend before last: rinse, clay, rinse, then Z2/ZFX, followed by Z6, twice....I have meteor gray....looks like liquid metal...I've been calling my car the T1000, after the terminator in T2.....and with all this rain we are having on the East oast right now....it still looks awesome.

My friend who is a car dealer even noticed it yesterday and was commenting on how great it looked even in the pouring rain....

Re: Should I Zaino?

I wash first with Dawn and while still wet (drying now is a waste of time) I spray on lube and clay, then rewash with Dawn (it makes sure everything is removed), then dry quickly to have no water spots.

Then do the Z5 if necessary. The use of Z5 depends on whether the dealer did a good detailing job with no swirl marks, or not,....I've seen both. If you don't think you need it, go straight to Z2.

Re: Should I Zaino?

Like you, I'm picking up my first CS this Saturday and I purchased the same Zaino kit in preparation for a weekend of cleaning and polishing. I've been looking for several months for the right opportunity and the boss (wife) gave her blessing. Unfortunately, I won't have a garage to store her and would be interested in what Cayman owners use for outside storage. I've seen some feedback on the site and would appreciate any recommendations !!

Re: Should I Zaino?

I purchased the Noah car cover but haven't put it on yet. I read a ton of reviews and everyone spoke very highly of the Noah. It kills me to have the CS outside, but I'm hoping the Noah will protect her well.
