Well, this weekend marked my first full detail on my CS. When we picked up the car from the dealership last year it was full of micro swirls and even had a few significant scratches. One was a long semicircular scratch that almost extended the full width of the front hood. I suspect that whoever prepared the car for pickup used a dirty towel to either wash or dry it. Anyway I was having some concerns about my ability to remove the worst scratches, when in steps the Porter Cable 7424!
I primed the car with two washes using Dawn followed by a treatment with a clay bar. The wheels were then pulled and cleaned and waxed. The wheel wells were cleaned with a 50% solution of Simple Green and then treated with a rubber and plastic treatment.
Then the real fun began. Using my new favorite power tool with a white foam disk and some Poorboys SSR-2 I polished the car stem-to-stern. It came out very well. Next I needed to take on the bad scratches. I switched to an orange foam pad and went to work with a little more effort in the bad areas. After two polish, wipe, and inspect cycles the scratches were gone. I considered going over the car again with some SSR-1 but it really did not appear to need it.
I followed the polishing with some Red moose Machine Glaze, applied with a blue pad and the color really started to pop. The final step was a coat of P21S, and as they say “Bobs your uncle”. The car really looks great, better than when new.
I want to thank all at this site that provided the info I need to accomplish this job. I also want to thank Her987CS who helped with the entire process, kept me in beer, and performed many other SLJs to numerous to mention.
Here are some pictures of the final product.
