Race Compound Rubber Marks on Paint
Many of you that track your cars must have this problem. When I come back from a track event, I get lots of black rubber marks, coming off race compound rubber, around the wheel weld from my own tires and some marks on the hood from cars I approach on track.
Do any of you have some good tips for cleaning off these black marks without damaging the paint?

Reason: Correct spelling error in title.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
best we found is gum off or goop off, will take off this rubber, as well as AX cone rubber as well :-)

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
Be very careful using Goop Off (or was it Gum Off? I threw it away) on plastics. I've had a couple bad experiences with it attacking the finish.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
Lots of wax before you go. Keep a healthy coat of wax on the car and it will come off easier. I also keep a good coat of wax on my wheels inside and out as well. Good luck.

Methyl Hydrate works well too.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
I do keep the car waxed regularly. I still find the rubber marks hard to remove.
It's hard to image that methyl hydrate would 'not' hard the paint.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
I use turtle wax liquid clay. Takes it off very easily and is safe on any surface. It you have a clear bra 3M plastic cleaner is awesome too.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
For years I've used Wheel Wax to easily remove track marks from paint and clear bra. It leaves behind a wax layer. Unlike the solvents mentioned above, WW doesn't strip wax leaving the paint unprotected.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
Methyl Hydrate is pretty gentle on the pain. It may take the wax off the area but that is easy to fix..
Bug and tar remover type solvents are much more harsh.
Cheers

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
Why would you want to remove them?
They are merit badges.
Kitchen scrubber. The plastic kind.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
Thanks to all for the suggestions.
I got a chuckle out the mention of leaving the marks as "merit badges".

Wax worked great, I waxed the car with Glanz Wax before I went out and tried a little to clean the tire bugger marks. They came right off.
Better idea than stripping the wax with Bug n Tar remover.

Re: Race Compound Rubber Marks on Paint
I accidently sprayed some Eagle One A2Z All Wheel & Tire Cleaner on the rocker panel where there were rubber marks while I was cleaning the wheels.
The rubber marks melted right off. At first I was concerned about the finish, thinking it was going to be affected by the cleaner. It did not affect the finish, so I tested it in several areas with good results. I spray it on the rubber marks and wipe it off with a microfiber cloth and then rinse with water. Keep the car waxed and Rejex after it cures. My wheels take a beating on the track, I don't wax them because it makes the balancing weights fall off too easily. I clean them after every event and try to get the brake dust and rubber off ASAP.

Re: Race Compund Rubber Marks on Paint
We use WD-40, period. Hose your car down with lots of water (clean off what you can without touching with your hands), grad a old but clean t-shirt area, spray a little WD-40 and wipe away! (small area at a time, pls) It will come right off. Wash, dry and detail your car as you would normally.
We use this on all our cars after the tracks.

Zymol HD Cleanse does a great job! Actually a visiting 911 driver at the BMW Oktoberfest Driving School (Watkin's Glen) asked to try before buying.
We did a demonstration on his car, and he snagged the large bottle, as he was quite pleased with the results!
I try not to "sell" too much outside of the Vendor's section, but this is a legit tip.
Best regards,
Roger the Waxmeister

WD-40 is mostly kerosene. I'll pass, thanks.
