Angry AHHH!! Rain Damaged SEATS NOOO!!!

Ahem... So I went to an autocross yesterday and as my windows were down and I was checking times it started downpouring. By the time I ran back the passenger side was pretty well drenched ( this was in Florida so it happened quick ) Anyway so I have the Sport seats which have the perforated centers and around the perforation in a few areas appeared lil dimples. Where the holes are the leather is normal but there is a raised ring around them. I just let it sit thru today hoping it would dry out and they would go away... to no avail... This pisses me off greatly to say the least..

SO I have searched the forum with every combination of wet, rain, damp, leather, seats, oh dear god why, etc and didn't find a topic dealing with it.

So how bout it? Any wisdom besides next time keep your windows up? ( really that wouldn't be wise considering my poor Milla's state ) I'm currently away from my garage so the only detailing supplies I have on me are the ones that come in porsche's detailing kit ( gotta love free but not sure how good they are... )

I love my interior so very very much please help me... [/pitifulness]

Ugh, sorry to hear about this! Not really any ideas, but maybe let the car sit in the sun for a bit to REALLY heat and dry the seat out?

Leather should recover from moisture. Let it alone for a few days before attempting anything and then give it a good conditioning. My leather saddles get wet all the time and they turn out fine.

I second that advice....my last car had leather seats and heated to boot...I left the sunroof open during a torrential down pour....needless to say I had about an inch of water on the floor...and well my seats....well when I put on the heated seats it felt like I was in a hot tub on the ride home....but that was the last time the heated seats worked. The leather was fine after several days of drying out.

I agree as well. Try to let it dry out before anything. If you can get some kind of air movement in there, that'd be a good idea. Even a fan or something would help even if it sits outside (when rains not predicted ). Interiors can take a looong time to dry just sitting there.
Then reassess and go from there. Do you have a good leather product at home that you can use?

Re: AHHH!! Rain Damaged SEATS NOOO!!!

In the owners' manual, p 233 of the 2007 version, Porsche specifically warns against getting the reverse side of the perforated leather wet. Given the rings & dimples you've described I suspect that is what happened to your driver's seat.

I'll be the lone disagreer here - I think that leather seat cover needs to come off, and the foam underneath needs to be dried out or replaced (more likely the latter). It is possible the seat cover will not be the same again either.

The quote from the manual:

Perforated leather must under no circumstances
get wet on its reverse side.

Re: AHHH!! Rain Damaged SEATS NOOO!!!

Well it's about 90+ every day since last sunday so hopefully that'll do it ( god knows what it is in the car feels like being slapped in the face by a desert when I open the door ) I REALLY REALLY hope you're wrong blueone but I'll figure something out if you're not...

Yeah and alas david, I did not get but one run in the dry so they were spared... but hey I was a couple seconds quicker than some STIs in the wet so that's not too bad. First autoX in the wet, very odd... pools were forming and while I expected oversteer I'd just hydroplane where ever momentum took me. I was hoping to go to your regions DE at road atlanta but my scheduling got screwed over... and that autox was no consolation... bugga...

Well anyway as far as leather conditioner I have some from pinacle and some others I can't remember off the top of my head. Also have that porsche detailing kit from croctoberfest, anyone use this thing? ( All I've touched was the carwash and the bug remover... pretty case though )

Re: AHHH!! Rain Damaged SEATS NOOO!!!

I live in central Florida and its been dang hot the last few days. What about removing the seats and letting them sit out for a while. But be sure to watch for those clouds.

Re: AHHH!! Rain Damaged SEATS NOOO!!!

This may be way too late, but-

IMHO,

DO NOT leave it alone! Take some paper towels and try to press out the moisture as much as you can. THEN leave it in the sun to dry out.
needless to say ...open the windows too.

YMMV
