Overwax???

When I'm bored weekend mornings I wash and wax my '08 Basalt Black Caymen S...21S Concours or 21S 100% Carnauba, which ever one I happen to pick up. It's great excercise and the car looks pristine. But it occured to me that I might just be building up wax that may not be the best idea. Actually, I wash every week and wax every two to three.........has anybody waxed one or two panels per week? Perhaps that may be the way to go.......I'd appreciate any comments

Re: Overwax???

Not to worry. I've been doing that for many, many years with no ill effect. Go forth and enjoy.

Re: Overwax???

I was at the Blackhawk Collection a couple of years ago, and one of the guys who maintains the cars (take a look at the Web site to see the cars - they're pretty amazing) says most of the cars have about 30-32 coats of wax on them.

Re: Overwax???

Agreed. I dont think you have anything to worry about. Most carnaubas are only going to last 6 weeks anyway, so I say keep up the good work

Re: Overwax???

On the other hand, you can over polish a car. Many, many years ago I owned a black Mustang GT. At the time I knew nothing of the fine art of detailing but I had a Sears rotary buffer and a can of one step polish/wax. (Give a man a new hand tool and there is no telling what will happen.) I polished/waxed that car almost every weekend until I noticed that I worn the paint down to the primer at places where there was a sharp edge to the body work. So just make sure that you are waxing and not polishing.

Re: Overwax???

I do my Cayman by hand about every three weeks (sometimes more). There is so much wax on the car, all it needs is a wick!!!! It looks beautiful and feels totally smooth. My neighbors say I have Porsche OCD. I find it relaxing, somewhat exercising and my car looks better than when I picked it up from the dealer brand new!

I think POCD will work and define this strange disease. Most of us suffer from this acutely!

Re: Overwax???

Hi
Zano has this clear sealent that you spray on very sparsely wipe and let wet dry, it looks hazy when drying but dries to a high gloss with protection for up to NINE MONTHS.
Exspensive $49.99 for a 6oz. bottle but will do many applications.

Good day
