Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

I've started the descent of the slippery slope! Here are baseline dyno results for my stock 2007 Cayman S on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. Peak horsepower came out at 242.4 hp and peak torque at 210.0 ft-lb. I have the Softronic SRP package on order and plan to install it over the winter, and then re-dyno the car in the spring. I'll post before/after results at that time. After that comes aftermarket exhaust and more...

First, the horsepower and torque numbers... The chart looks very much like the others I've seen for the CS on the Dyno Dynamics, so no surprises here.

Also, here are results for air/fuel ratio. The dyno operator said the bit of raggedness may be the result of turbulence around the O2 sensor that was inserted in the tailpipe.

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

I'm still somewhat bemused at the variance in dynamometer results...regardless of what the dyno says, you're going to love the SRP package!

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

Those results are almost spot on to my stock Dyno Dynamics results. Man, those Dyno Dynamics can break your heart, can't they? They tend to read pretty low at the wheels.

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

KTR's dyno is one of the lowest reading dyno dynamics in the country. Your car is strong! Enjoy the upgrades.

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

So what really are the numbers that Porsche quotes for a stock CS , 295 hp etc. Showing my stupidity here, I know nothing about dyno's.

295PS or 291BHP. Normally ~ 260BHP corrected 'at the wheels' on most dynos.

American cars get 295 BHP.

Is this a Porsche on paper 'rounding up' lie or is the power on US cars higher?

If so, that's unbelievable! Anyway I hear the Scottish version of the Softronic P3 flash liberates more power than the American version to compensate!

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

BHP is the stand alone raw engine power.
WHP (or RWHP) is the power at the wheels (rear).
295 BHP is about 260WHP owing to the power train loss from engine to tyres.
Or in this case 240WHP as read on THIS dyno machine.
Note also the actual engine BHP may very well produce up to 5% over the 295 for stock, or not.

I believe it has something to do with the dyno juice that's available here versus there.

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

strange because my stock dyno on a dyno dynamics yielded 283 to the wheel.... can you post the datasheet print out with the A and X factors?

thanks !

EDIT: before ppl start calling BS or bad dyno, an E46 M3 dynoed with me the same day putting down 276rwhp with Intake and Exhaust. right around what other M3s are dyno-ing with 15-18% drivetrain loss from their 333hp engine output.

The only data I have is posted here, i.e. the two charts. As we all know, the absolute numbers are pretty arbitrary. Dyno numbers can be all over the map for different dyno's and depending on how they are calibrated. I took my last car (944 Turbo) to three different dyno's and saw a spread of 55 rwhp between the highest and lowest hp numbers for the exact same car.

No need to call BS. This only reinforces the fact that all dynos reads differently. No surprise there. In fact, the real surprise to me was the fast that the OPs dyno so closely matched mine. That's astonishing, and it's why you see me get all crazy when people say, "Well, if I assume a loss of 11%, then I must be making........" Argh....! You CAN'T EVER assume a loss number. Every dyno is different.

By chance, are you using a dyno dynamics in the Van Nuys area?

As I said earlier in this thead... KTR's dyno is one of the lowest reading dyno dynamics in the country.
I would be VERY pleased with these results! Congrats again to the original poster.

I put down 263 on a Dyna Dynamics with only V-Flow intake about a year ago

Re: Stock Cayman S on Dyno Dynamics dyno

Don't worry too much about it, a dyno chart is for reference to quantify changes made and to identify places in the RPM range that need attention. As you modify YOUR car you will see what changes is makes. You now have a baseline to work from and it looks just fine.

I heard that it reads about 15% low.

When they hooked up a calibration horse it registered .85 RHHP (rear hoof horsepower).

Calibration horses are bred to produce 1HP +/- .25%

I wonder what causes that dip in output near 4000 bpm (hoof-Beats Per Minute)
