    Question on first dyno

    I have a stock 2006 Cayman S, Sport Chro with Triptronic that I plan to have dyno'd at a Mustang Tuner using a Dynojet. It there anything I need to know like;

    Number of pulls?
What gear should the Trip be in?
    Sport Chron On?
Any special connections or access required?

Thanks for any infor. I plan to flash using Softtronics software and dyno again and than again after I add a Bora exhaust.

    Re: Question on first dyno

I guess I need to answer my own question after today Dyno. Done at a local Porsche Shop could only read HP at the RW 246 HP stock car. Pulled in 3rd gear. Car is 2006 S with Sport Chron and Trip. Had a lot of issue with the cars computer dealing with PSM. It was turned off but caused faults that need to be corrected or deleted each time. HP seams low was only corrected for the temp and humidity? Plan to flash the computer Sunday using Softronics tune and try again next week.

    Re: Question on first dyno

If its any consolation, Mustang dynos are notoriously conservative. With that in mind, I'd say that 246rwhp is a good result for a stock CS with a Tip.

I'm sure others will chime in with more opinions, but that's mine. ;>)

Sport Chrono changes throttle response and a few other things but not necessarily HP. Another member dyno with 6MT and did the pull in 4th gear with no Sport Chrono. Did not have issues with PSM. Temp and Atmospheric corrections are critical since each day is different. You might want to run with Softronics for more than a week to give the engine / system time to adjust to the new map.

Then try doing same day dyno sessions Softronics and then back to stock to compare the delta.

My experience Mustang dyno - 2008 Boxster S 6MT 4th gear pull 247hp 206 tq. Pretty comparable result.

Thanks for the input. The Mustang shop canceled me at the last moment. I ended up going to a Porsche Performance shop about 40 miles away. I think they had the same brand of dyno, Dyno Jet.

    Re: Question on first dyno

I took my car to have it inspected (Texas) and it did not pass as failed emissions. No faults but systems not ready. I drove the car about 40 miles after the dyno and after they had the laptop connected which cleared faults from the dyno runs. I was told I need to drive more miles so the computer can read these systems. Does that make sense??

    Re: Question on first dyno

    Frank,
Not sure I entirely understand your question, but ...

    my 08 Boxster S dyno'd on dynojet

    HP236-243 tq 200-204

depending on which run, but it generated a whole lot of error codes from running on the dynojet (without the front wheels rotating). Error codes got cleared by the dyno guys durametric software, but PWIS at the dealer logged them all.

My mustang dyno runs did not generate any error codes.

Error codes are useful for diagnosis, but they may have been generated from running on 2wd dyno without the front wheels rotating. Service manager at dealer told me that power gets cut when front wheels aren't rotating - which is consistent with my getting slightly higher numbers on Mustang 4wd dyno (247hp 206 tq ). Mustang dynos are generally said to read lower than a dynojet for the same vehicle. YMMV

    Re: Question on first dyno

It is normal to see error codes, PSM in particular, after dyno runs. It's because the front wheels aren't turning. Try turning off PSM before you go on the dyno. These codes should clear themselves after you drive a few miles.

Didn't pass???? What did the inspection station say was wrong? My 06 has the Softronics plenum and flash plus catback exhaust and still passes with flying colors in Texas. I would consider a second inspection station.

    The result are as follows
    Overall FAIL
    Heated Catalyst - NS
    EVAP System- Not Ready
    Secondary Air- Not Ready
    Air Conditioning System NS
    ERG System NS

I am not sure what a NS means?
Today I drove 70 miles and went back to the inspection station and got the exact reading and they used two computers. A friend said I may need to get more cycles (On and Offs) before it works. I plan to remap the computer tomorrow using Softronics and than drive it for two weeks try to have it inspected and re- dynoed. What do you all think?

Flashed the computer using Softronics this evening. It felt stronger driving. Any idea how long I should wait until I do the 2nd Dyno? I was told by Softronics this should also clear my issue for inspection? I plan to drive a few day before I try it again.

Go to inspection with the engine up to full operating temperature - not cold -
re: softronics - i don't know but I would go through a full tank of gas before trying the new dyno.

Went for the re-inspection today this was the 3rd attempt. Passed! April at Softroics said it would pass after their re-flash. I put about 40 miles on the car since the new flash and all is good so far. Dyno in a week or so.

    Re: Question on first dyno

Installed a new BMC filter yesterday. My OEM filter was filthy, filthy. Looked like my shop vac filter. Must have been the original filter. I have 29K miles on the car. When I bought it in March it had 26K and I was told it had a 20K service. They must have not changed the filter. With the new filter and the flash I got 260hp first run in 3rd gear and 266hp and 269hp in 4th gear. Lots of issues with failure codes. The PSM was turned OFF and Sport Chron ON and the Triptronic in manual. The first Dyno run (two weeks ago) was done in 3rd gear because of the Triptronic kept going into a safe mode when it was in 4th gear. Two weeks ago before these mods I got 246 HP in 3rd gear.

Does anyone know if there is any Dyno setting for a Triptronic. About 200 RPM before red line it reads "mercy mode or safe mode" and than shifts into 5th gear. The shop which does mainly Porsche's has never done a car with Triptronics. The shop connected there laptop and cleared numerious codes but on the way home I turned on the radio and the only thing I get is the Porsche name displayed but no radio or CD. I have the Durametric software and plan to hook it up and see if there is a failure for the radio displayed. Does that make any sense??

Bottom line the car pulls a lot stronger with the new filter and the flash.

    Re: Question on first dyno

FWIW- When you reset the ECU, the systems will go into 'not ready' as you saw. You have to complete enough drive cycles to get the systems back into the ready state. A drive cycle can vary for each system. For example, for emissions, I think you have to complete 3 cycles, in which you have to reach operating temperature, must drive at least 55 mph for several minutes and do some other things.

It's all standard OBD-II stuff. You can find the exact details online if you are really interested.
