Dyno'd the car b4 and after Revo

I have the miltek headers and exhaust. No air filter upgrade as of yet.

before chip car was making 305hp at the crank
after chip car was making 335hp at the crank

according to FL after driving the car hard for 20 minutes the chip will adjust further to get another 4-5hp.

I will have dyno graphs soon.

also regarding the chip being seen by Porsche computers as has been mentioned in another post the problem has been corrected, earlier chips did have that problem.

What were the rear wheel numbers and what kind of dyno? Making 30 hp from an ECU tune is unheard of.

A dyno operator if he or she wants can produce some unreal numbers. Was this an independent operator are one affiliated with the modifications?

I'm not trying to imply that anything underhanded took place but considering that 3 or 4 different ECU tunes I've witnessed have all netted somewhere between 5-10hp at the rear wheels (7-12 at the crank) to have an ECU tune suddenly develop 3 times that amount is certainly questionable on a naturally aspirated engine. If the results were stock exhaust and stock ECU before and then modified exhaust and modifed ECU after I could understand the numbers, they would make sense, but these kind of numbers for ECU alone do not make sense.

when I have the graphs emailed to me I will post them up. I don't have enough info at this point to comment on the numbers. I was not there to witness the Dyno runs. According to FL who ran the dyno they believe there was such a big difference due to the stock ECU not taking full advantage of the headers and exhaust.

That sounds extremely high for just a flash on a NA engine!?

How much is the Revo btw?

Wow 30 hp, I want one! How obvious is the power increase at the pedal?

Which Revo did you get? Did you get the SPS switcher so you can switch between maps/flashes?

I have heard a trick too get inflated Dyno numbers is to spray some pure Oxygen in the area of the intake for a nice boost.

Based on his post, guys, it sounds like he has a full exhaust system including headers. In this case he'll see more power with the chip upgrade than someone replacing the chip as their only modifications.

Maybe he can clarify what other mods are done to the vehicle.

mods that I have
miltek headers and exhaust
center radiator
de-snorked
GT3 control arms
GT3 brake ducts (extra HP feature)

coming soon
LSD
underdrive pulley
Half Roll Cage - custom

Ok a few things
  • the chip was done 2 days before it went to the fabricator for the roll cage so I have not driven it.
  • I got the SPS switcher, I have not tried it
  • I don't know what it is considered stage 1 or 2, I would think 2 because of the exhaust and headers.
  • Farnbacher uses the Revo programing as a starting point and then customizes from there.

Other than that I have asked for the dyno files to be emailed to me and they should be today or tomorrow.

Those numbers--

I have pretty much the same system-- Milltek headers, hi-flo cats & exhaust, BMC foam air filter, plus de-snork. Revo Stage II, install done by F-L. I felt more power up top, would be very surprised by a 30 h.p. gain on a N.A. car. Will post dyno numbers in a few weeks.

Re GT3 control arms-- Pretty expensive way to get camber, not sure the car really needs all that much . I got about -1.5 and -2 deg. without much trouble (used Eibach ProKit lowering springs). I think I would have done JRZs and swaybars first. Pls post pix of the roll hoop when you get a chance...

i run -2.5 degrees camber, can't get that without GT3 control arms or camber plates and not that expensive.

Just a couple points from this side of reality:

1) An ECU chip that is not specifically tuned for your vehicle (ie: a pro-tuner actually flashing a specific eprom for your car) is just this side of snake oil. The best you can do on a one-size-fits-all ECU chip is about 2-3 degrees of timing advance, which equates to 6-9 HP, on average, and may actually have a deleterious effect. Definitely not a good value for your money when you consider a $30 air filter with better dP qualities can net you 5-10 HP.

2) The only way to appreciably effect your car's performance is by making mechanical changes (ie: camshaft, heads, exhaust, etc).

I always shudder when I see such wickedly false statements (even when Craig clearly said he didn't have details yet) being bantered around....

Paul

aren't these basically the same numbers that ken has been talking about getting out of his car with basically the same setup. just curious why all of a sudden people are questioning the numbers.

I never saw Ken say he got 30 HP out of a chip? It simply isn't possible from a physics stand point (that equates to 8-10 degrees of timing advance) on a NA car. I wish it were that easy, but alas...

Craig,
Your initial post indicated that the ONLY difference between the dyno runs was the Revo ECU flash. In other words your first posts says that you had the aftermarket exhaust on, dyno'd the car, then ECU flashed and dyno'd again and you gained 30hp at the crank.

If, on the other hand, and as I said before, your first dyno run was BEFORE the exhaust was added and before ECU tuning, then the COMBO of exhaust and ECU tune could net you 30hp at the crank.

My ECU + Intake + Exhaust + hearders combo netted me 38 rwhp or in the low 40's at the crank, so if you didn't have headers and didn't have intake I could see 30 at the crank.

What I was questioning was that gain from ECU alone.
