Well I finally did it!

After all the talk and research on this forum and many others I finally pulled the trigger! I am sad to say that I did not get a Cayman but did get a 2008 Carrera Coupe- she is beautiful!

Re: Well I finally did it!

I'm also an avid lurker and also ended up purchasing a 997. The test drive in the Cayman at our first dealer visit hooked me on Porsche. My wife and I drove a number of other makes after the Cayman and they kept coming up short. We then drove a 2009 Carrera with PDK and liked it a lot, but it wasn't quite the ride and handling that the Cayman delivered.

In the end, two things shifted us towards the Carrera. First, I could not determine how to fit my son in the back of the Cayman so we could all go for a ride. Second was simple impatience. I could buy a custom Carrera with PDK in Oct 08 and get it in January 09 vs waiting for Porsche to release details on the new Cayman and getting it later in the spring. I realize that patience is a virtue, but I got bit by the Porsche bug hard with that first Cayman test drive in September.

So in a week we are about to be the proud owners of a Ruby Red 997.2 Carrera which will be a daily driver. In a few years, my son will out grow the back seat and I will make my next Porsche purchase, this time a Cayman in Aqua Blue.

Thanks to all who post at this site. The wealth of information and positive feedback from owners was another major factor in our choice of Porsche.

Re: Well I finally did it!

Ken,

you should definitely have a 997 site by now ..... a lot of the experiences and travails shared by 997 and 987 owners have a common strain, etc ....

do it... bud

Congrats to both of the new 997 owners!

And add another vote for a 997 section/site...

Here is a couple of pics of our Ruby red Carrera we received today. Thanks to the members posting pictures in the Gallery of this color. It helped in deciding the color combo.

Ken, I've said this in a couple of other threads but I echo the sentiments of my fellow posters...a 911-equivalent website to the caymanclub would be a great contribution to the online community. The format of the caymanclub is unmatched when it comes to automotive forums, and the quality of contributors is top notch.
