How is Porsche favored?

In our discussions about the 2009 24 hours of Daytona, It was mentioned a couple of times that the new rules currently favored the Porsche 3.99 liter motor. I just looked up the specifications of the accepted motors, and noticed that the Lexus motor is a 5.0 liter V8. So, now I am wondering why the Porsche motor, being one liter smaller than the Lexus is now considered to be favored by the new rules. Anybody know?

Re: How is Porsche favored?

The Porsche gets a 6 speed tranny (4.5L and below) and a 50lb weight break (4.0L and below). And, it can still make 500hp, as that is the limit for all cars, I believe (don't know how they reinforce that....). Just looked that up on Wiki.

Those two items should close the torque gap somewhat.......

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds more like this just evens the playing field (or race track I suppose).

They actually put the cars on chassis dynos during scrutineering in GrandAm.
