Wink Sportomatic

The other day I read the manual book of Haynes about narrow Porsche 911.

Then I found an interesting trasmission technique named "Sportomatic".

I understand that the principal structure of the "unique" transmission is based on torque converter , conventinal gearbox and (electromagnetic?)clutch .

But I don't know whether this is practical and you can enjoy driving by this.

Anyone know this "Sportomatic"?

Re: Sportomatic

I don't know a whole lot about it, other than it was a clutchless manual transmission.

It is interesting however, that there is a whole website dedicated to it: Sportomatic.org

Re: Sportomatic

It was awful - when you put your hand on the shift lever, it automatically took the transmission out of gear, anticipating the next shift. One of the worst "experiments" in Porsche history.
