Should I buy a Carrera S
Hi Everyone, I want to know what you think.
Right now, I have a 06 Cayman S that's going back. I put a deposit on an 07 Carrera S, Black / Black with the GT3 Aero Kit. They are selling this car for 60k. They are running an interest rate special which to get a 5 year finance, would cost the same price than my Cayman S lease is now. I want to obviously cut a deal, so this is what I was thinking...
Tell Porsche I will take the car IF:
- They bring the price to 55k
- They install all of the upgrades I want for free which I will pay for (it will run me 8k). The upgrades are... GT3 Seats, Leather Dashboard, Suede Steering Wheel and Shift Knob, Red Seat Belts, and Turbo Wheels. These are all OEM parts and were offered when the car was new.
The car in general is in new condition, paint has minimal swirls and no visible dents/scratches or rock chips. It's black so.. you know, the usual stuff can happen.
Any advise? What would you guys do?
Thanks!
-Joey

Re: Should I buy a Carrera S
Sounds like you will have a stunning car when it is all done. Keep in mind since it is a negotiation it is implied that there will be a give and take. I would suggest that you shoot for the $5k off which would make the car a pretty fair deal.
I you get that far see if they will install the minor components; seats, wheels, seat belts at no cost to you to close the deal. I think that dash and steering wheel labor might be pushing it, good luck.

Hey man, thanks for the advice. I actually just got a call from the guy at Porsche and he said that what I'm asking for is reasonable, and he will ask service what they can do. He's also waiting for me to give him a final number on the car.
I'll think about it overnight and get back to him. Thanks for the advice!

Re: Should I buy a Carrera S
Hey Joey, why are you getting rid of the CS?
I'm on the market for a CS, and when we went last week to pick up my brother's new '09 Cayenne GTS, saw a pristine '05 Carrera (new model), but after I drove the 911 and CS back to back, I wasn't impressed at all with the 911. But as I said on a thread I started, I thought it was weird being able to buy an '05 911 for the same amount as an '06 CS. But after driving it, the only Porsche I'd own is the CS. The 911 felt like a FWD car but backwards. If it's for 'status' reasons, I understand since it's a more expensive car, but it just didn't do it for me. And as nice as the $90K GTS drives, it's just a VW SUV in disguise. Yes, it's nice, but I'd never spend that money on one. Good luck man.

Re: Should I buy a Carrera S
Yeah but the Carerra you drove was a base. He's looking at an "S". I think it sounds like a very good deal on an outstanding car. As long as the car is mechanically sound that is. I would ask for the ability to get a PPI from an independent source. Just MHO

Re: Should I buy a Carrera S
I drove both cars easy, so an 'S' would have made no difference in how the cars feel.
And yes, wish I liked the 911 better since it's definitely a better deal, as I said before. An '05 911 for '06 CS money is a crazy deal, and the only explanation is the CS has better resale value or better demand. And that makes 911s in general a better value in my book... if you like them better. Sorry for the confusion. Later.

Re: Should I buy a Carrera S
Hey Everyone,
Well bottom line is, the lease is up on my Cayman, and when I sat in the new 09 Cayman, a great car no doubt, but the Carrera S is a piece of car history, and since I'm starting a car collection, I want that in it over the Cayman. I have no complains about the Cayman. Also they are giving me .9% APR financing on the Carrera S which is almost unheard of... and to be honest, the performance difference between an 09 Cayman S and the 07 Carrera S, it's not like noticeable. And I won't be tracking this car, I would have an E36 M3 for that.
So it's more between this Carrera S, and a vantage v8 really.
