Should I be getting CPO on this car?

My local dealer has 2 x '08 CS in stock at a very reasonable price. The cars have had the warranties punched in January '09 and been moved to their pre-owned vehicle department. They told me it was for depreciation purposes or some such. The original window stickers have been removed and replaced with used car type warranty stickers (60 days 1000 miles bumper to bumper etc.) I know these cars have never been retailed because I have seen them on the lot since April at least and I test drove one of them a few months ago. My question is: should I be asking for CPO status on these cars and would they qualify at all having never been retailed? They told me that the remainder of the standard warranty would apply but made no mention of CPO. I thought it might be something to ask for at the bitter end of negotiations.

Thanks in Advance,

Bretster

Re: Should I be getting CPO on this car?

Bretster,

I know what you mean! I've been considering getting a low-mile pre-owned CS and those two are nearly perfect. I'd sent them an email asking the reason for listing those them as used and the status of warranty, but have not heard back. Do they mean the standard warranty started in Jan 09?

BTW Like yoru avatar! Have two goldens of my own.

Looking forward to hear what others have to say about this.

Re: Should I be getting CPO on this car?

That's my buddy Mr. D. As far as starting the warranty, for some reason they have started the standard warranty on the cars. So the 48 month / 50,000? mile Porsche standard warranty will have 42 months remaining. I've read about this over the last few months in some other posts, but can not remember the exact reason for doing this.

It's ashame to have the warranty clock start ticking even with the cars just sitting on the lot.

What's your experience so far with the dealer? Never visited them yet; might do that this weekend.

A tummy rub for Mr. D.

I've never purchased anything from them. I just stop by every now and then to look at the cars. They are gearing up for a "pre-4th of July tent sale" starting tommorrow and have the blue one in the corner of the lot marked down to 48 and change. I seriously want that blue one.

I hear ya. The blue one looks nice, but the red one has more options. Just leave one for me when I get home this weekend.

I wonder what they would do to move them both?

Re: Should I be getting CPO on this car?

You can use the 'warranty punch' as a bargaining chip. I just bought a leftover '08 Cayman S Sport and encountered the same issue. Car was never titled, but the warranty was punched in Jan.

Re: Should I be getting CPO on this car?

An authorized dealer cannot retail a car as Pre-owned unless the car has been titled. If the cars were leased to dealer as "demos" than he is bound to disclose this and the cars must have a minimum number of miles before they may be sold as preowned.

If you purchase that car as a CPO you'll have six years of warranty, and your insurance premium will be reflected as that of a "used car", that it, a lesser premium.

I would be suspicious of this "deal".......................if you are comfortable with it, than I would purchase the car as a CPO.

Re: Should I be getting CPO on this car?

If these two cars were in fact demos, would you suspect break-in procedures such as keeping below 4200 RPMs were not followed? Should I be asking for over-rev readouts? Anything undesirable about a demo car I should be looking for?

Thanks.
