Unloading Lease 6 Months Before Maturity?

My 2008 Cayman lease ends in December, but I'm moving to Manhattan in a month and want to unload it. Apparently I can't technically transfer the lease with just 6 months left, but I'm thinking about "loaning" the car to a friend for the remaining period for 50% off (i.e. my monthly payment is $1000, he would give me $500).

Porsche Financial says that letting anyone other than your spouse drive the car constitutes default on the lease, but how would they know? At the end of the lease, does the car have to be dropped off by the original lessee?

If I don't do this, then my only options are selling it to a dealer and taking the loss or accelerating the lease (basically I give Porsche all of the money but they get the car 6 months early) -- both of those options sound terrible.

Re: Unloading Lease 6 Months Before Maturity?

You or your agent may return the car to any Porsche dealer. You will have to have the car inspected before the return and you will need to sign the inspectors paperwork.

You and your friend would need some sort of rental agreement that included all the required insurance coverages. I'd say the risk of legal entanglement would be too high to bother with.

In the winter parts of the world cars don't get to be enjoyed the full 12 months of the year so you could look at your problem like that.
