Each center cap has two small holes in it. Automotion/Performance Products (probably others too) sells a thick wire device designed to fit into the holes, and you then give a little jerk outwards to remove the cap. You could also make your own cap puller from a wire clothes hanger by copying the commercial version. Finally, with the wheel removed, you can just push the cap out from behind.
If the wheel is off of the car, take a blunt object such as the end of a hammer and gently push it out from the inside. It should pop out with minimal effort.
Use a small allen wrench, the kind with a 90 degree bend - brace it with one hand and insert the angled end of the allen into one of the center cap holes, pull gently and it will come right off.
I take the wheels off and push with my hands - doesn't take any hammer or any other force.
If you don't want to take the wheel off, I would have to think that something as simple as a coat hanger wire bent in a U shape would give you the leverage needed to pull it off...With that said, I haven't tried this myself
I just used a large paper clip, bent one end out to about a 45 deg angle, carefully inserted it into one of the holes, and slowly popped it out the cap. Works great for the DE events.
Hi guys,
Thanks for your help, the 2 allen key trick worked brilliantly on my back 2 wheels, but the caps on the front wheels are refusing to move. I've REALLY tried, they've almost broke.
Could there be brake dust lodged in keeping them stuck?
Am I going to have to take the wheels off?
Thanks
