Hi,

In case you all missed this over in the UK forum.

Just picked up some clightly scuffed Cayman S wheels with part worn PS2 tires off Ebay for £350. I had been looking for a set since last year, but were all going well over my price bracket as all seemed in mint condition. I wasn't bothered about condition because I wanted to powder coat them black.

I paid £55 per wheel to have the tires taken off, chemical stripped, blasted, powder coated black, new valves tires re-fitted and balanced.

I think for a total cost of £570 the result is pretty good.

Jack - the wheels look very good and at £220 for the four to be powwder coated is very reasonable. The Gen1 CaymanS wheels look better than the Gen2 CaymanS wheels in my opinion. When I get another Cayman I also plan to have the wheels all finished in black. They also look better and far less less cost than the factory or OPC finished coloured wheels which still have the silver rim edge and the inside of the wheels are not coloured either. Also they will still look good when they are dirty which is another benefit.

I know it would be the decent thing to do, but I need all the ground clearance and all the wheel travel I can get where I live.

Poor Karel grounded out his poor old Merc E-Class Estate coming down the lane when he came to visit the other week. Gives you some idea of how bad the road is ;)

Love love love the look!!! Very stealthy and "anti-bling". I am thinking about getting my next set of wheels in black.

No matte wasn't an option when I had them done, but after a few miles they look matte anyway.

And it hasn't really been sunny enough, or the car clean enough (ever!) to be able to tell basalt black from plain gloss black. Plus I'm not that attentive to really care if the shade and sparkle match perfectly, TBH. I mean, look at the rest of the car

I swithed out the center caps from wifes limited Boxster. The ones from my CS were standard silver and hers having the factory black fuchs came with black center caps. She liked the contrast better with the silver as I did the black on my powder coated wheels. And I think one of the above post's said it about Jacks duties. Clean the wheels the car is dirty or is it the other way around either way very cool son very cool indeed.

Very cool, stealth look. Black center caps are nice too. Glad your wife agreed to swap. Everyone's happy! :)

Mine were done at Alloy repair and refurbishment from Diamond Wheel in Stockport. Speak to Steve. £55 per wheel, inc VAT, including the centre caps painted, Wheels dipped, blasted, powdercoated, tyres re-fitted and balanced.

Wurlie, the car feels really nice. Much more compliance in the tyre, car doesn't get deflected by ridges and bumps as badly, and grips the same. Break-away of the rear end on a roundabout is much slower for some reason too. Ride quality is obviously better too.

Thanks Jack, I'll give them a call too, see if they collect/deliver.

Love the total black look on yours car, my Boxster is silver, I have the Cayman S 18's on at the moment, it came with the Boxster S 18's. I'm trying to get an "old school" look, swapping the coloured centres for the black silver ones, I've just added the front splitters, black wheels will look good, and then if I can get through to Suncoast, deleting the dash cover.

Ah spring has sprung, top down today, good times
