Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Hey people, just back from the gym and noticed that my left rear tyre was looking a bit flat. Tried to use my special porsche tyre inflater but couldnt get any air flowing through the valve (in or out). Hobbled to the nearest petrol station and same problem, no air hissing out the valve when I hooked up the nozzle.

I'm in the UK and there are no garages open. The car isnt really driveable, I'm getting a horrible thudding noise from the tyre when I limped it home.

Any ideas guys? Any advice/suggestion for whats going on would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Only thing I can think of is, maybe someone has stuck something in the valve, which has jammed it !!!!!

Sounds like someone removed the valve stem. Did you check? They should be available most anywhere. Hope you didn't ruin the tire or wheel driving with low air. Careful with that. That could be expensive.

Re: Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I'm so impressed with that!

The valve stem appears intact, it does seem like theres some kind of blockage. I tried wiggling it about (getting technical I know) and inserting/removing the air attachment - all to no avail.

I'm totally stuck and I've got patients to get too in the morning. I live about a mile from the local tyre place. I'm tempted to limp it in there but I'm really wary about it. I think thatll mean I'll totally wreck the tyre but I cant really see another option. Typical, I let my AA cover (like AAA) lapse a month ago!

Do you have a valve key,(to remove the actual valve) or can you see inside the valve itself.........wait will it let air out if you press a match or similar onto the valve, that will show if it's stuck somehow and if so might well "unstick" it. then you can use your compressor again and get more air into it !!

Re: Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Since it seems valve related perhaps you can get a stem and stem removal tool from the tire place? Your tire will go flat if you remove the stem. How much tire prressure do you now have?

Re: Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Ok so I tried the matchstick thing and nothing doing. It seems jammed up good and proper. Dont have access to a valve key/stem removal tool. I think I'll chance it tomorrow and take it to the garage unless its flat to the ground. Guess the alternative is to get a mobile fitter out. Thatll mean a new tyre and £220 but I just need it fixed!

Thanks a lot for the help, its really appreciated. I'll let you know how I get on.

Yeah.

I would just acquire the valve tool for removing the tire valve itself. New tire valves are extremely cheap, and they unscrew easily.

Re: Flat rear tyre, unusual problem! HELP!

Ok so I managed to drag my car to the local tyre place (< 1mile, very sloooowly, still a bad idea, I get it). Luckily this place is like 300 metres from my work. So I leave it there, race back to work, see some patients, head back and get them to have a look. Its at this point that I realise that there is no locking nut key anywhere in the car. I check the manual to make sure Im checking the right place and there is a key shaped void but no key. The car was bought used from Porsche under their approved used scheme last June and has only been back to Porsche on once occasion and nowhere else. Noone has accessed the car but me and I aint touched it!

Phone up Porsche, get very angry. They tell me I have to bring it to them (over 20 miles) to find which key is required and to remove the wheel. As the car is still under warranty, l thankfully have porsche assist. They collect the car, give me a replacement (2.0 diesel Xtype Jag - a boat!) and take the car off to Porsche. The car was picked up at about 12:30 pm, Its now 6:20, the garage closes at 6pm and still no call from them. I called at 5 and was promised a call back.

Fantastic service...?

They did say they were shortstaffed at reception but I dont think thats cool leading into a weekend. Still dont have a diagnosis/resolution.

Sounds like the kind of day to check into a cozy inn, sit by a fire with a bottle of nice brandy and wait for the dark clouds to blow away. Hope you didn't irreparably damage your tyre.

Patience, Santa Fe. It's only been 3 days, and they said they were short-handed.
