Wheel/Tire setups that worked
I spent a lot of time trying to find out if a wheel/tire setup would work on my CS. I searched the forum and found some info here and there but nothing that really answered my questions. So I decided to start a thread that is JUST FOR WHEEL/TIRE SETUPS THAT WORKED FOR YOU.
So please share with the community what has worked for you. I'm sure that it will help someone looking to change to a new set of wheels and tires. We can keep the format very simple and straight forward. Here is what worked for me.
Working Setup
Suspension: Stock
Wheels: F- 19x8.5 et45, R- 19x10 et50
Tires: Nitto Invo F- 245/35, R- 285/35
Spacers/Size (mm): No
If we all follow a similar format it would keep thing easy to read at a glance.

While I'm still confused about what to do with my CS I cannot add anything other than to say that I am also interested in other's experiences - and why.
Especially the 18s. While I have 19s now, I'm thinking of 18 rims for the track.
Hopefully you will get some responses.

I think Sleepless did a great job ordering the rims that I picked up from him. They are Forgeline SP3P. The front is 19x8.5 with an ET46 offset and the rear is 19x10 with an ET40 offset. I don't need spacers and the tires fill the entire wheelwell. They meet flush with the body just where there should.

Suspension: Bilstein PSS9 - lowered 1.25"
Wheels: F- 19x8 et57, R- 19x9.5 et46
Tires: Nitto Invo F- 245/35, R- 285/35
Spacers/Size (mm): 4mm (rubbed inside wheel well w/o spacers)
I plan on going to 275/35 w/o spacers after the 285s wear out.

I have lowered mine with Champion Motorsport H&R lowering spring and put 18mm H&R spacer in the back. I have put 285/35/19 in the back all fit well no rubbing, handles no worst than stock tires. I found the wheel fat sidewall makes the car look funny. is it why your going back to 275/35/19. Ho do you like your 245 set up on 19x8 rims.

I'm going to 275/35s because the 285 rubbed w/o spacers. I might try the 285/30s if they don't cost more. The rubbing only happened when I took a corner at high speed. I'd rather run w/o spacers, it's just a personal preference.

2006 CS, stock
PASM
Had 19" 35-series Michelins but they're too low profile for me.
Bought from Tire Rack and LOVE--
Moda wheels--18X8.5 (54) and 18X10(42)
Sumitomo tires--HTR ZIII, 235/40-18 and 275/40-18
IMHO excellent traction dry and wet. It rains little in Phoenix, but the other day I was driving thru a storm so thick I had my wipers on high and was still slowing the car--and got NO aquaplaning or slipping.
Next time, 245s for the front, and if they made them, 285s for the rear.

This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.

If I had installed 285/30/19, it would have affected my speed. The car speedometer would show 70 MPH, and the actual due to the smaller circumference compare to the original spec, would be 68.48MPH. The 285/35/19 gives me 71.47 at 70. This is better as far as your car mileage. In my opinion,the higher profile of the 285/35 looks weird compare to the lower profile front tire. If you want to upgrade to wider tires on CS stock 19" rear rims, the 275/35/19 are the closest to the original tire as far as speedometer impact and to keeping close to the look.
The lowering created more negative camber than stock springs, this is why I put the spacer. Did it mainly for the look.

Wheels: F- 18x8 , R- 18x9 Stock
Tires: Nitto NT-05, 245/40 R- 275/35
Spacers/Size (mm): No
Just a simple +1 setup, NT-05s have been a durable, grippy, and inexpensive tire for me.

Have you tracked the car with the Nitto's; and if so how did they handle. Am I correct that the 245's on the front should reduce the understeer?

Just as a reference here are some wheel sizes and offsets that will fit under the arches
All are 18" (standard S rims for reference: Front 8" & 57 offset, Rear 9" & 43 offset)
So Front
8.5" = 53 offset
and rear
9" = 43 offset
10"= 40 offset
Obviously tyres are relative to rim width.
As I was looking for a rim that would accommodate 24.64x18 front and 27.65x18 rear and am going with 8&10"

I used a Nitto Invo 285/30 -19 on the rear with no rubbing (stock 19" Sport designs), and the car has been lowered with H&R springs. I really like those Invos!

I bought a set of Nitto 555s...235/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear to replace my PSIIs. This is a purely street setup. Tires look good and a lot like PSII. I'm not going to run these on the track. Have 18" wheels for that.
The 555's have a little tread noise, like PSII, but not too bad. Steering response is slightly less but ride comfort is better. They make nice street tires. I think they would not make good track tires because of the block treads.
My first choice for street tire replacement was Sumi HTRIII but they didn't make them in a size I felt good about putting on my car.

Can any body help, I'm looking to use 27 68 x18" on the rear of my Cayman (managed to get hold of some 10 x18 rims with an offset of 58)
has any body tried this ????
Using 24 64 x 18 on the front on a standard 8 x18" Cayman S rim
These are the tyres used in GT3 Cup in Europe....but I fear the diameter of the rears will be to big ??
Advise anybody !!

I'm in a "base" 2007 Cayman, and run the stock 17" wheel set-up on the street with Michelin PS2. Reasonable grip for the street and a comfortable ride.
For the track, I use:- Suspension: Stock
- Wheels: 997 Carrera III F - 18x8 et57, R - 18x10 et58
- Tires: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup F - 225/40, R - 295/30
- Spacers/Size (mm): 15mm in rear
Epic grip, but from JackTs2K's post, it looks like I can go a little fatter in the front to 235!

You can run 245/40/18 in the front without clearance problems or spacers. I'm running them with 8" Boxster S wheels. 8.5" would be better, but these work great. I'm using NT-01s. I have 275/40/18 in back.
That's plus 10mm for both front and rear. With a 40 profile, that makes +4mm on the sidewall, which means +8mm on the total diameter. Very manageable and the slightly "longer gearing" effect is fine for most tracks. At R/A, the problem is running out of revs and having to shift before the next corner comes up, not standing start acceleration. These tires help with that a little. I can hold 4th to Turn 3 brake point. Keeps the same front/rear balance so no excessive understeer like you are probably experiencing with huge rears and small fronts.
I'm not a fan of hugely oversized tires. Takes the fun out of driving the car. I ran in to a poster a few months ago that used 245 front and rear so he could rotate his tires. He said the car was great to drive on the track with that setup. I nearly went that way myself, but I don't have a lot of track experience with the CS yet, so I went with sizes that would keep the stock F/R balance. Car feels good out there!

Six - We're trying hard to keep this thread as only information for tire setups that work, without a bunch of advice or commentary in between - please read the first post, and you'll see that was the intent (and a good one, too) of the original poster of this thread.
