Tire pressure indicator problem

I have had the tire pressure indicator fail to indicate anything...then like magic it works fine for months.
Today i get into the car and turn it on and a get a low air warning on the rear left tire but the pressure shows 32 pounds. Then while driving the indicator shuts down to nothing shown at all on all tires.
Anyone had this problem besides me? I just got back from a service visit yesterday. My dealer is 128 miles away and I just can't stop in for a quick check over!

Re: Tire pressure indicator problem

(Moved to tires and wheels forum with the other TPMS threads.) I suggest you read through the existing threads for ideas. Could be a bad module, bad sending unit, interference from another car with TPMS, weather changes that put it on the border of reporting, loose valve stem (recommended to replace when changing the tire on the wheel), frequent stopping and starting and some other things. What service did the dealer perform? Maybe there is a clue there as well. Some have reported over inflating and then bleeding back to the correct pressures (using a very good gauge - not the ones that get within plus or minus 3 or 4 lbs pressure) have "reset" the brain. And by all means try getting the system to relearn (have enough time to drive for 15 or 20 minutes on some cars).

If you go back to the dealer it probably isn't going to be a quick check over given the variables, the fact that they will have to figure out the problem, maybe order parts, keep the car to replace them and have time to teach the system.

Re: Tire pressure indicator problem

If you really want to solve the problem, get a car w/o TPMS, like 99.9% of the cars out there.

Re: Tire pressure indicator problem

I was serious, and very sorry you took it the wrong way.

The system is NOT fully reliable and gives many many fault signals. Ask around, you'll be surprised; however, there are few lucky ones with proper functioning systems. I wasn't one of them. The dealer tried 4 times to fix it...

I drive an 07 CS, changed the wheels/tires and decided NOT to tranfer the transmitters because of the fault signals. Too many times had to stop in route to check tires due to the faulty system. Nowadays the fault light is always on. So I got used to it knowing that it is disconnected.

Re: Tire pressure indicator problem

I just got a low pressure warning on my driver rear(sounds funny). I measured it with my digital pressure meter and was exact. 5 pounds low. Filled the tire up to 37 psi. Both the TPMS and my digit meter gave me the sane read out. Its been my experience that the TPMS is spot on.
