Cayman S 19" wheels/tires

Hello everybody,

Just bought a 2007 Cayman S with 5300 miles on it. One of the features that was attractive to me 19" wheels. I've bought the car through Internet. Never seen it live yet. I've got all the specs but it looks like there is something I overlooked: the tires.

Is it normal for 19" wheels to have the same size tires both on front and rear wheels? The ones I have installed are P235/35ZR1. The question came up because I noticed that 18" wheels have 35 front & 65 rear tires.

Would there be any advantage to change the rear ones for 65 tires?

Thank you

Original equipment sizes are 235/35/19 front and 265/35/19 rear. I don't know why the car has 235s at both ends (drifting?), but I think you should go back to OEM sizing.

Oh, and welcome to the swamp.

Jim,

Thank you!

I haver no idea either. Actually the tires sizes were mentioned in the independed inspector's report I ordered just in case. I noticed a few mistakes in the report like, for example, "Power Roof" and Drive, 4-wheel.

I hope that the tire size is a mistake too but will be able to check it out for sure tomorrow morning.

Welcome to the club.
I say the inspector assumed that F/R tires were the same size.
His first Porsche ?

Thank you!

I cross my fingers and hope it was the inspector's mistake. The thing I definitely do not want is the fight with the dealer over the tires that are below the standard. But the chances are I'm facing it.

What the heck do you pay an independent inspector for if his report is full of mistakes? I'd find a new inspector and report this guy to the BBB. If he misses things as freaking obvious as "Power Roof", God only knows what he missed on the "inside"...

I have factory equiped Pilot Sports. They are wider in the rear. My prvious Boxster had 18's and they were wider in the rear as well.

Re: Cayman S 19" wheels/tires

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your input.

As I exoected it was another mistake by the inspector. She indicated "Non-Major Brand" while those Pilots and size of the rear is 265. The company refunded me the money I paid for the "inspection".

Actually I am happy it was a mistake

Could you please advise how I can determine whether my car has Prosche Computer Management? I need it to decide whether I can activate DRLs on my own or if there is no PCM to bring it to the dealer.

Thank you!

Re: Cayman S 19" wheels/tires

Do you have pictures? If so, you have PCM (Porsche Communications Management) if you have a nav-system sized screen in the center stack. If you don't have a big-ish screen, then you have the regular radio/CD combo CDR24.

As I said I've not seen the car live yet but it looks like it does not have a screen in the center stack.

Have you asked them for all the option codes? Inside the maintenance booklet there is a sticker listing all the options on that particular car. You can then look up the codes on the 'net. There are various sites to do this, on this site some of the most common are listed here:

Planet Porsche - FAQ

For example, the BiXenon headlights are option code P74. If the sticker lists "P74" then that car has BiXenon headlights.

Re: Cayman S 19" wheels/tires

Thank you!

It a very good advice. I will try to get them. The car will arrive in a week or later and I have not the maitenance manual yet.

Also, the following is confusing to me. I drove Cayman not so long ago. It did not have the screen in the center stack but when I asked the sales about switching from miles to km, he showed the lever on the left of the driver's wheel. The lever turned on/off "Settings" right on the speedometer screen and it was possible to toggle between miles & km.

Could it be that the same switch can activate the DRLs?

Actually I browsed the FAQ sectioon of the site but could not find anything related. Could you please advise other sites?

The dealer asks $250.00 for the activation, which I believe is just a rip off.

Thank you!
