Toyo Proxies 4

I just put some Toyo Proxies 4 on my car and they perform really good.
295/30 ZR19 on the back and 245/35/ZR19 on the front Lowered with H&R springs and all is well .
Tires were not cheap though with 4 wheel allignment it was close to $1,500
Originally I only did the Rears and there was more oversteer then before and I became a little disturbed about it.so after Reading some posts here on the Planet by SANTA FE he had told another member that if you go 295 in the rear you might want to try 245 in the front to help with the oversteering you might encounter .and low and behold my car feels 100% better!!

Thanks Santa Fe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you knowledge really helped me out

Prodgers; A couple of years ago my local tire shop recommended the Proxes 4for my Alfa when they became available, I was reluctant first but once they were broken in they were great tires IMHO.

I think you mean understeer, or front-end push...

Beez

And I think it might have been you BEEZ that wrote that reply in the post .Man Iam Messing up - Understeer ?
This is my first Porsche as you can tell but the Steering was too sensitive withouut the 245's on the front .Meaning ,the slightest movement with the wheel and the car was turning more then before -Kinda squirrley Is that Understeer? Now its not so sensitive and I can go faster in the turns and I have more control . Will post some pics after work Thanks

Re: Toyo Proxies 4

Good to hear they're working out for you Peter, what tires did you have beforehand and how do these compare? Did you also get that alignment issue resolved?

Understeer is when you go off the track nose first, and oversteer is when you go off the track a$$ first.

Seriously, though, understeer is when the front tires lose traction. You turn the wheel, but the car doesn't turn. The car is turning less (understeer) than you want it to. Oversteer is when the rear tires lose traction (also known as spinning). The car is rotating more than you want it to (oversteer).

That's a simple description, but that's the essence.

Re: Toyo Proxies 4

I am on my second set of Proxes 4s on my BMW 325 wagon; 30,000 miles on the first set, and 15,000 into the 2nd.

As for your note on oversteer, if you had Proxes4s on the rear and PS2s or 050s on the front, no surprise that you felt oversteer for 2 reasons. First, any new tire is going to be slick for the first few hundred miles, and the P4 is really an all season tire, so with the 295s on the back even after breaking them in, they probably did not have the same level of grip as the PS2/050 265s to complement the stickier fronts.

By putting the P4s on the front, you have rebalanced the grip, and really now have more relative grip in the rear given the 295/245 vs. the factory 265/235. I would also say that compared to a PS2 or 050 in 265/235, you have less overall dry grip with the 295/245 set up given the all season nature of the P4. However, the P4 may perform better the wet though which is certainly a consideration in Washington.

I would NEVER mix tires.............

Regards

Re: Toyo Proxies 4

Yes I had NITTO NT 101's on the car before and It handeled really great and lasted over 30K Miles and the front tires are still only 50% worn!! Crazy.but the tires were 235 /35/ZR19 front and 275/30/Zr19's on the rear but I wanted to fill in the wheel gap some as I did not like having a huge gap even with my car lowered .I would have bought the Nittos again but they do not make a 295 /30/ZR19 Tire for some reason .
My car looks REAL GOOD with the new Tires that fill in the gap so I am really happy about everything but the cost ..Whew $1,500 and that is with a $100.00 off .
When I had the Nittos on the front and the Toyos on the rear is just handeled poor ,When I was going around turns fast the wheel was just too sensitive and the slightest movement in the stering wheel made the car turn TOO MUCH - I cannot have this if I want to keep up with my Cayman S counterparts- all this talk of Driving school lately . I think I am going to do this .Any sugestions as to where? Thanks Guys
