Hemet to Idyllwild and the reverse (up and down San Jacinto Mtn) - curvy/dangerous

Moreno Valley to Loma linda via Redlands Blvd/ San Timoteo Canyon Rd - curves and straights, but uneven pavement

Couldn't agree more with your recommendation on the Hemet to Idyllwild drive.

I remember San Timoteo through the badlands from 40 years ago. The pavement wasn't so hot then either. Is it still untrafficed and unpeopled?

No, I commute through there daily, traffic can back up quite a bit. If however they were to replace three stop signs with signals and add in a few dedicated turn lanes traffic would flow smoothly, unless there was a train.

Ok, guys, some info/help from you locals. I'm driving Tucson to Huntington Beach on Friday 6/30. I usually take I-10 to 60 to 91 (I have a Toll Tag) to 55 into Newport Beach (my Cayman S LOVES her hot shower at Car Spa after her long run). I usually try to hit Rt 60 in the wee hours because I love the curves between Riverside and Moreno Valley. Is the above route a "must do" and how much time will it add to my drive? Thanks in advance.

There is a real difference between the "mountain" route and Hwy 60. The latter is a freeway, with sort of sweeping curves. The route over the mountain is two-lane, twisty, steep, and fairly long. I'm sure it would take hours longer, but it is the sort of road that we like to go on for a day's drive, not to get "there" but to enjoy the driving and the scenery. Remember, at this time of year it will be hot - take plenty of water.

I got a very very nasty ticket on my 1000 GSXR from a very strategically placed motor cop on San Timoteo Canyon Rd. I was nearly arrested. Thank God my company supplied batteries for their command centers and I talked my way out. It still cost me over $1000. I will never go fast on that road again.

Whoa, that looks like a great road. Is it all canyon driving or are there freeways involved.
