Thumbs up Great Drives by State

This idea came to me after someone posted a great drive for those who live in Arizona. Rather than hijack his thread, I thought it a good idea to start a thread where everyone can post drives in their State that the rest of us may want to make note of.

I live up here in Washington State and a great drive that I discovered is the Mt. Adams Road leading from Trout Lake up to Mt. Adams. Take State Highway 141 north from State Highway 14 along the north side of the Columbia River at Bingen, WA (right next to White Salmon) and go all the way up to Trout Lake. Continue north and once past Trout Lake it turns into the Mt. Adams Road. This is a freshly asphalted road with many winding turns and not a lot of traffic. It is simply a great drive on a summer day with great scenery and driving!

There are many other great drives in WA State as well as other parts of the Country, but I'll let others chime in who have first hand experience.

Good idea Mike, I'm gonna like this thread! I'll post a VA drive, but I need to dust off the maps!

Boise-> Garden Valley-> Stanley-> Red Fish Lake-> Sun Valley-> Boise. About a 7 hour drive through some of the windiest and most beautiful parts of Idaho.
Whatever you do, wherever you go, enjoy the drive.

There are a bunch in Colorado. My favorite is driving on highway 550 from Ouray to Durango. Lots of curves and spectacular scenery with the San Juan mountains as the backdrop. Here was a pic along the way.

    Re: Great Drives by State

Mountain Green, UT lies in the center of many wonderful sportscar roads. Trapper's Loop, which I live off of, is a great road full of sweepers with one problem--it's regularly patrolled by Morgan and Weber county sheriffs. The old Snowbasin road ten-minutes away is wonderfully twisty with elevation changes and nearly no traffic. Within 20 minutes are another five or six great drivers roads which at the right times can be virtually deserted and range from 12 to 50 miles in length. Really, it's an embarrassment of riches--but I'll take it.
I think most mountainous regions like mine have many and varied roads that are ideal for our Porsches. I'm interested to hear about others.

Thanks! I am from C. Springs and will definately head out that way for a nice drive when the weather permits it in a few months!

I just got the car a little over 2 months ago and am new to the area so I am now looking for these routes.

Virginia/West Virginia - Hwy 250 from Staunton VA to Snowshoe WV - then back down Hwy 32 through Goshen Pass.

I'm considering a drive from VA to British Columbia for the Porsche Escape in SEP10. This thread could be a great help in finding the best way from here to there.

    Re: Great Drives by State

Has anyone heard about the Gila Wilderness Loop in New Mexico? I have looked at maps and can't tell exactly which roads they are referring to, but a lot of high dollar sports cars convoy up there to make the drive. Jhemp42

    Re: Great Drives by State

I realize that everyone wants to draw larger crowds to their favorite roads, but before this thread gets to five pages, check-out the link that AreaOne gave above; it's an excellent source. The favorite biker roads (we share) around my area are identified. Same goes for another area that I'm familiar with in another state. Others have already done all the work.
