LA Freeway Recommendation

I'll be driving from the Bay Area to Costa Mesa in Orange County on Sunday. I'll probably be a the 101/405 interchange by mid afternoon but dread the thought of heading south on either I405 or I5 with the afternoon traffic. Would it be better to head east on I210 and then head south on 57 or 57/71? any comments would be appreciated.

Bill

Re: LA Freeway Recommendation

If you're driving on Sunday it won't be too bad. Sunday is the one day out of the week that traffic is actually pretty tolerable on the 5/405.

Re: LA Freeway Recommendation

Thanks, my friend told me 405 was like a parking lot on Sunday.

I guess it would depend on where on the 405 he's talking about. Between the 101 and the 22 it's usually pretty good on Sundays.

The 5 is the most direct route to Costa Mesa coming from the North. I would just stay on that all the way.

Re: LA Freeway Recommendation

The problem with the 57/71 is that the 71 is essentially a "local" road with multiple traffic lights and stop and go traffic. Agree w/ others on going the more direct route. There is a small stretch of Sepulveda right where the 101/405 meet that can be fun and just as fast as the freeway depending on traffic.

Hm, I think the OP's trip was back in February so it's irrelevant now...
