| Re: Kansas / Missouri Driving I live in Lee's Summit on the MO side of the metro. There are a few good rides around this place, but a major problem is that frequently you will get behind Joe Farmer driving his pickup truck at 40 mph with no chance to pass. The local PCA chapter sponsors really good "fun drives" that locate the best of the best roads and hit some astronomical, er, I mean strictly street-legal speeds, but they go by in a blur and I can never remember them in detail. The PCA folks know the best rides on the KS side.
Nevertheless, here are some of my own favorites. Good luck ...
KS Hwy 5 (Wolcott Road) from I435 to Leavenworth. This has some stuff on it that is frightening. If you see a sign saying "Stop Ahead," do NOT ignore it, stop immediately!
MO Hwy 7 from Clinton to Warsaw and from there down to Camdenton. That is a good ride down to Lake Ozark if you aren't behind an old pickup truck or if they aren't paving it.
MO Hwy 24 from KC to Lexington.
If there is no traffic on it, Noland Road south of I-70 can be highly entertaining, as well as most of the roads feeding it.
Most any paved county road can provide entertainment but they take a lot of exploration before you can enjoy them to the fullest.
Generally I find it really hard to find a good drive around here. This isn't exactly California. |
