A couple of people have asked for a place to post recommended driving routes / locations for Cayman owners. This is the place!

I'll start briefly with one of my favorites and that is highway 100 just outside of Jefferson City, MO towards Hermann, MO. I'll have to post a map but certainly one of the best roads in the midwest, lots of twisties and some very nice elevation changes to boot! Road quality is excellent as of 2004-2005.

Angeles Crest Highway- north LA... lotsa twisties in the mountains... watch out for falling rocks and cops on sports bikes, still worth it.

Great roads?
Smokey Mountain National Park area, and of course the Blue Ridge Highway. I've driven up & down West Coast Hwy 1 several times over the last few decades in such vehicles as an MG Midget (when I was 17) to a twin Turbo Nissan (when I was about 30), and many others in between, but the Blue Ridge area is best because of the road conditions and the road quality, not to mention the curves. Also, the entire Blue Ridge area is full of resort areas (unlike HWY 1), with lots of cabin rentals etc. I've also exploited the Angeles Crest Mountains from La Canada to Palmdale when I lived there in the early eighties. Busy then, busier now, questionable pavement, too many bikes, the most dangerous national park in the United States is the Angeles Crest Forest. Believe me, for a very nice, very sophisticated motoring vacation, point your Road Burners South. I leave the North Shore of Illinois by 6;30 AM, and make it to North Carolina by 5:30 CST.

I agree with Lizard King, the Blue Ridge Parkway is wonderful. My wife and I drove the entire length (over 400 miles) on our honeymoon in very early spring before many people were on the road. It was great then but will be much better in the Cayman. I looking forward to driving on it again!

Cayman owners will benefit from the recommended driving routes for motorcyclists. When in California try some of the drives on this list:

My wife and I took a road trip in my 1999 Boxster through the black hills of South Dakota to Mt Rushmore. Great twisting roads and some awesome scenery. I also love driving through the Virgin River Gorge between Las Vegas and St George, Utah. Lasts only a few minutes but a lot of fun in any sports car (the remainder of the drive along I-15 is not so fun). And of course, if you find yourself in my home state of Utah I think a drive through any of the Cottonwood Canyons is a must - stop at the top and smell the burning oil, then enjoy your exceptional Porsche brakes and handling on the way down.

Palomar Mtn road near San Diego. Lots of twists, switch-backs and elevation changes. Watch out for times when there are lots of motorcycles, slow vehicles and the shear drop offs on many turns. An excellent run

Epeter01,

I'm originally from Utah. Either Cottonwood Canyon is great.... I agree! I'll be driving back to Utah for a few weeks sometime before the end of the year. A canyon run with my younger brother in his 350Z, my sister's boyfriend in his Lotus Elise, and myself in the Cayman S is a must.
