Description: Although Porsche brakes are always excellent, additional brake cooling cannot hurt for cars that are tracked. An easy and inexpensive modification that increases front brake cooling is to install 997 GT3 brake duct spoilers. I obtained a set of these from Suncoast for $30 http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...=caymanSbrakes. A further upgrade is to install the 996 GT3 RS brake duct spoilers, but these cost $240, must be trimmed to fit, and tend to scrape the ground on lowered cars http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me...=caymanSbrakes.

The installation is easy, and should take no more than 1 hour. As a 1st step, turn the front wheels in the direction of the wheel to be worked on to provide better access to the brake duct spoilers.

After your jack the car and remove the front wheel, stick the wheel under the front of the car so that the car cannot fall on you in the event of equipment failure. You'll be working directly under the front discs.

Here are 2 photos of the stock brake duct spoiler, designed to direct air from the brake duct onto the brake disc. The brake duct is visible at the lower edge of the fender on the right side of the 1st photo below.

To remove the stock spoilers, you must pop loose 2 hooks that are located on the back (inboard) side of the control arm. These hooks are hard to see and photograph. To help you visualize how these work, here is a photo of the hooks on the new spoilers (the hooks and latches on the new spoilers are identical to the stock spoilers).

When installed, the hooks, which come up from below, hook into the upper latches from the inside out. To pop the hooks loose reach up with a screwdriver and pry the upper latch loose from the lower hook. The screwdriver needs to go between the hook and the latch. This photo illustrates how on a stock spoiler after removal - I couldn't get a good photo of this operation on the car.

Once the hooks are loose, you remove the spoiler by pulling the upper and lower edges of the spoiler forward. The plastic bends easily, and the spoiler pulls right off.

Here is a comparison of the stock spoiler (top) with the GT3 spoiler (bottom). The stock spoilers have part numbers 996.341.483.0 and 996.341.484.0. The GT3 spoilers have part numbers 997.341.483.92 and 997.341.484.92. Not clearly shown in the photo is the increased "sculpting" of the GT3 spoilers. Also, there are lips on the top and bottom edges of the GT3 spoiler that help to keep air from spilling over the top and bottom edges.

To install the new spoilers, reverse the procedure. Bend the upper and lower edges of the new spoiler forward to install it on the control arm. Slide it forward until the tab on the lower edge of the upper half of the spoiler fits into the matching pocket in the control arm. The tab in question is visible in the center of the photo below. Snap the 2 hooks in the back. You're done!

This photo show how the GT3 spoiler directs cooling air onto the brake disc when the wheels are centered.

When reinstalling the wheels I used the wheel hanger tool, available from many sources. This is a really nice shop aid...

You can't beat the price, and now when some unfortunate soul comments upon how you constantly outbrake him on the track, you can mutter under your breath some vague remark about the GT3 braking system components you've installed!!!

Pros: Inexpensive
Cons:
Have you installed this Product or Mod?: Yes

I had a devil of a time removing the RF brake duct and ended up sawing off one of the clips. Otherwise, this was a 5-minute job (not including 5 minutes of wheel removal).

Fast & easy install before my first track day. Brakes worked great, hopefully these helped. For the price there is no reason not to try them.
