gravel on highway

hott, i was listening to your show this morning on star 101.9 and heard that you and scotty b encountered some gravel on the highway this morning and that your "brand spanking new" car now has paint chips. i presume that it was your cayman. sorry to hear that. if it happened to me i would be extremely upset as i bet you are.

scotty was correct that if a pot hole causes damage to your car, you can file a claim against the state or county (depending upon who owns the road) because there is an expectation that the government will adequately maintain the roads. however, gravel on the road may be a different matter depending on who spilled the gravel and how long it was on the road. obviously, if a government agency spilled the gravel, then the government should be responsible. if the gravel was on the road for a while, then the appropriate agency should have cleaned it up. but if it just occurred a night ago, the government may not have had the time to clean it up.

if it occurred on a state highway, you might want to contact the state DOT and see if there is any recourse for you. if it happened on a county road, try contacting the customer service department.

Anyone here installed a clear bra? I'm getting chips, scratches, et al on the front of my car from all the **** that's left on our "wonderfully smooth and clean" roadways, including two chips from someone's wrench that another car ran over and flicked into the air, hitting my LH side vent.

Yikes! And I thought Houston roads were bad. I would say if your roads are as bad as I am lead to believe by these posts, all of you need to invest in a ClearBra. Worth the money for the peace of mind alone.

Well, not knowing the extent of the damage, here are your options as I see them.

1. Get a bra put on without fixing the damage, and you will not have to worry too much about further damage, but the existing damage is preserved under the bra.

2. Fix the damage and then put a bra in, but if you ever want to remove the bra for whatever reason including replacing the bra (they will eventually wear out) you run the risk of pulling up the repair with the bra.

3. Do nothing, and run the risk of further damage to Lucy.

So, how bad is the damage? If you decide to get a clearbra whether you fix the existing damage or not, you need to find a top notch installer. This is where all the difference makes. Do some research into who does this type of installation. Being on Hawaii, I would imagine your choices are going to be limited. Once you pick a few prospects, go and see their work and ask if they have ever done a Cayman. The curves on the Cayman can prove to be difficult.

My apologies for your mishap, nothing worse than blemishes on your baby.

Let us know of your progress...

It very minor.. BUT... before the gravel... not a mark on my precious baby... I am sooooooooooo in love with this car. It's not that big of a deal but I am now really thinking of the clear bra... I will check around here and scope out who does them and well.. ! I will pass any info along. There are very few caymans on the island so it will be hard to find someone who has the experiance...

Hott, I feel for you. I got 2 nicks on my hood as well. I touched them up, but I STILL KNOW THEY ARE THERE. It's painful.
