Oahu visit suggestions

Am planning a trip to Oahu and was wondering if some of you fine folks would recommend things to do / sites to see. Have been there about 20 years ago but it's time for a return to your beautiful state. For certain am going to take a helicopter trip and do some snorkeling. Thanks for any advice!

John,
Its definately changed alot in 20 years.
You definately have to visit and drive to the North Shore and the Hawaii Kai side.
For snorkeling visit Hanauma, make sure you go in the morning since the water gets murky in the afternoon. You'll see tons of fish swimming around you.
Also hike Diamond Head, I did it 2 days ago. You get one of the best views on this island.

John,
I'm sorry nobody else from Hawaii chimed in yet, but today is Aloha Friday. So you'll probably get replies later on in the day.

Visit Russ!

And go the A-Frame on Waikiki Beach. You can play speed chess with the locals. I used to go there and take their $$.

Hi John,
Besides Aka's suggestions of Haunauma Bay and the N shore (esp if surf is up), the Arizona Memorial-Missouri battleship is a must visit, but be sure to go early. A walk along Waikiki Beach at night from the Hilton at the west or ewa end to the "wall" at the east or diamond head end near the zoo is magical. And, if you're adventuresome, there's surfing, diving, parachute gliding, etc. Hope you have a fun vacation in the islands.

aloha, alan

Hi John.....

Don't worry give it a few days and people will reply. Sorry.....I was baking cookies all night long.....

Anyway.....there's a cruise around the island to see the beautiful beaches, go and have some snow cones (shave ice) from Matsumoto's Shave Ice in Haleiwa, on the north side of the island you can see all the famous surf points like pipeline, sunset beach where major surf competitions are held each year. There's also the Waikiki Aquarium where you'll see lots of tropical and exotic fishes.

Maybe we can get all the CAYMAN's out for a cruise.....

Lots of shopping to get all your local goodies.....

Also.....I will gather up some magazines to send to you.

Arizona, Missouri Memorial

just visited Oahu in august. the memorial was the reason i started my trip in Oahu. the Missouri is positioned to stand guard over the Arizona; a very moving experience! there is a new museum on Ford island with some restored warbirds on display. the Arizona is a goose bump generating tour, and should be a required stop for all Americans. the USS Bowfin submarine is also there and open for tours. hope you enjoy your trip, its hard to have a bad day in such a beautiful place. oh, dont forget to grab a meal at zippys!

a lot will depend on the time of year you plan to visit (there are festivals such as the aloha week festivals). if you come during the winter months, then you must drive to the north shore to see the winter swells at waimea bay and the banzai pipeline. if you decide to go to the north shore, you might also want to visit the polynesian cultural center.

another popular stop is sea life park in waimanalo. while there, you'll be able to see rabbit island. if you're in downtown honolulu, you could visit iolani palace, the only royal palace in the country. across the street from the palace is the king kamehameha statute, which is in front of the hawaii state supreme court building.

a short drive from town is the national memorial cemetery of the pacific at punchbowl.

Aloha John!

We have a condo on the North Shore at Turtle Bay. I just returned from a 3 week vacation there! To me it is one of the most beautiful spots in the world, but I am very biased to the North Shore in general.

All of the above suggestions are good ones. I would add Kualoa Ranch on the North Shore as well as hitting one of the shrimp trucks that are parked along the Kan Highway on the North Shore.

Have a great trip!
