A strange tale ...

Last Wednesday night I heard a scraping noise when I was on Kahekili Hwy; got home and couldn't see anything trapped under the car or in the tires. Called Melissa on Thursday; she asked if the car needed to be towed in. No, I told her I'd bring it down. On the curve by CompUSA I heard the sound again.

Took a ride with a mechanic on the road behind POH and he heard the sound too. They put the car on a lift while I took a look at the eye candy in the showroom. Would you believe they found a .25"x.5"x1" piece of rock wedged behind the left rear brake rotor, between it and the backing plate? Rock out - back to normal!

While waiting I got to chat with Aaron MacCulloch, one of the new sales reps. We ended up talking about bikes - he bought a Suzuki SV650 and was having it upgraded (ah, cycling ... another never ending story).

Anyway, props to POH for taking the car in and solving the problem without having to schedule an appointment. Thanks! As to where the rock came from? It must be from the torn up roads on Beretania, by Maunakea.

Hey man I was just in Hawaii a few weeks ago visiting relatives in Hawi and wondered what it would be like to get my CS on some of those twisties around there. I particularly like the drive from Waimea to Hilo, as well as some of the roads that traverse the Parker ranch. Glad to hear you got the rock out of your crock, was it pahoi hoi or ah ah (apologies for spelling).

Rocks get stuck all the time. Most of the time they fall out. Sometimes, you have to remove them manually.

They said this was wedged in pretty good; I guess if I left it long enough it would have ground itself down to where it might have fallen out.
