Porsches Are Wasted in the Rectangular States
I'm in San Francisco for work this week. I got a pretty decent rental (Sebring Convertible) and decided to go for a drive. I drove down Highway 1 for about sixty miles - then turned around and came back.
What a gorgeous road. I longed for my Cayman and realized that I have never taken it on roads like that. There just aren't that many interesting roads in our mid-west rectangular states.
I think I'm going to start a petition in favor of rapid tectonic change in Minnesota.

When I first read that title, I was thinking, "Oh boy. Here we go. I'm going to need to moderate this one.....". I was mistaken. Good point and cute delivery.

I agree - I get jealous when I see the pics posted of Caymans on mountain roads. Around here, if it weren't for freeway ramps, I would never get to carve a curve.
I guess that's one of the reasons why I've decided to track my car - so I can have some fun wringing it out on a road course once a month or so.

I think Colorado is rectangular. Try driving from Denver to Aspen.

While you're at it, ask for smoother roads too....and don't forget the pot-holes.

DF - try going across Golden Gate bridge and driving North on 1 as well - you want some switchbacks, there are some amazing curves up there, and scenery.
wave to me as you leave the city - !

I wonder if I saw you tonight - I did exactly as described. Magnificent!
I saw a dark blue Cayman on the Golden Gate bridge tonight. It had Wise roof racks - belong to anyone here?
The traffic was pretty bad so the drive wasn't as much fun as my drive yesterday - but the scenery is just beyond words. You are lucky to live here.
Back to the snow for me tomorrow!

Phoenix is set up on a grid. I need to go outside the city to get good curves. It's one of the only things I miss about Wisconsin.

i was South of the city tonight. glad you enjoyed the scenery - at least on Rte.1 if you are stuck in traffic, you have a great view!
enjoy your snow. i tend to miss it here. Pennsylvania winters were quite different...

The home is in Nebraska, I have been working in VA the past couple of months (skipping the great plains winter) and hitting the Skyline drive area on the weekends. I got the chance to go on a drive with some DC area Caymans last month, and just returned from the highest dollar cruise-in I have ever seen down in Atlanta (check the March 1st thread in Zone 3) After driving in the mountains, on-ramps are going to be just an awful tease. Fortunately things should be warming up soon and that means track days and autocrosses aren't far away!
