Yep - I'm in! I'm really fired up to take my CS to the track for the first time. I've owned it for almost 7 months now, that's just too long without track time!
I've been to VIR a few times in the past with my previous ride, an A4. I think the difference is going to be interesting...

Great, we'll have 5-6 Caymans at least this time I think. I haven't been to any track for the past 16 months, and I cannot wait.
I am leaving on the afternoon of 4th around 1 pm from Germantown MD, and staying at SleepInn; would any of you like to caravan down?

It will be fun to see what other Caymans can do. I hope I'm not too much of a back marker!
I'm coming from Raleigh, so no caravan for me, but I'll be at the SleepInn too.
Also, does anyone know if a schedule has been posted for the event? Is this a true 3-day event, or is Friday for Instructors only? I haven't found many details on the webite (though I may just be looking in the wrong place...)

I don't think they have posted details just yet. It is full 3 days, so be ready to be on the track Friday morning; tech generally is on Thursday afternoon until about 7 or 8 pm, late tech is on Friday morning, 7 am and drivers meeting generally is at 8 am, with first track outing around 8:30-8:45 am on Friday. Instructors run in either white or red group in their own session all three days, just like us

I will be going down around that time and will be at the SleepInn in Danville too. Are you towing with a trailer? I posted on DORKIFUS to see if anyone can haul my track tires so I don't have to rent a trailer.

Sounds great, we can head out together than. I don't trailer, just gonna put the R888s on and drive. I am sure someone at Dorkiphus will offer help to get your tires down, I'll also ask couple of people that I know. Also, you may want to ask around personally during the tech session a week prior to the event.
Since you are at Frederick, we can meet up at Milestone in Germantown at 1 pm, then pick up Dan from around Tyson's at 1:30 pm and drive down.
How does that sound?
Do you have a truck to pull a trailer with your car on it? I have a friend with an a very nice aliminum trailer that he may be willing to rent to you; it has its own adjustable brakes.

Sounds good. Where/what is Milestone? I guess I could just drive down with my R888's too but if something mechanical goes wrong it is a long way from home. I do have a truck.

Milestone is a shoping center at the intersection of Father Hurley Blvd. and 355, exit 16A from I270; should be on your way. Or, we can meet at a location of your choice.
I am going to take the risk by putting the R888s on the car, but I cannot say you should do the same; neither of us will have any fall back plan However, I really don't want to go through the hassel of carrying r-comps besides my street tires. On the other hand, if you want me to ask my friend for renting his trailer (it has the tire rack on it), I certainly can do that; then I'll put my r-comps on it too It is too much trouble though I think.
Any way, I just learned that Dan won't be able to caravan with us, his plane is landing on the 4th at 3 pm, so he'll join us late night or the next morning.

FT, I will be there coming up from FL this time.
Got an email today that they are looking for more instructors in case anyone is on the fence about going to instruct for this event.
BTW, the instructor run groups are Black and Red. White is a solo non-instructor group normally. No schedule available yet as far as I know.
Look forward to seeing you again and hearing how you like the R888's
Maury

FT - sounds good. Will meet you at Milestone. I will send you a PM with my contact info. John

Maury, it will be great to see you again, I certainly hope you'll be my instructor. I am looking forward to trying the Toyos at VIR, my first time on them was at Shenandoah and I could not get used to them or the track; hopefully my old friend VIR will be more fun with them.

So... with hurricane Hanna currently expected to pass right through the Danville area on Friday night/Saturday morning, what do you folks think the fate of the DE will be?
- Worried!

I'm worried about it too. Will wait until Thursday morning to see what the situation is before heading out.

Listening to Weather Channel projections, which have been very accurate, I am not worried. They predict Hanna to make land fall possibly as a Cat 1 right around SC, but very quickly dissipate and turn into a tropical storm afterwards and they are not expecting even significant accumulation of rain in NE of US. The major risks are the coast lines and they expect significant surf levels.
So, it will be rainy probably Friday afternoon and Saturday, great time to practice rainy skills; but projections show a great Sunday. So, we will have a very good opportunity to drive on dry and wet track, experience the differences and learn how to adjust to such conditions.
Potomac will cancel sessions if there are thunderstorm warnings, but unless we get significant gust, they'll continue through rain. Just bring extra pants, long-sleeve shirts and driving shoes and a large enough tarp to warp all of it in to keep it dry I am sure we will have fun.

Alex, sorry you missed this event; you may want to check out the Thunderbolt event: http://www.planet-9.com/zone-2/260...t-raceway.html
Also, you may want to try an autox if you have not already: http://www.planet-9.com/zone-2/263...-6-14-sep.html
Cheers,

The latest local (Raleigh) forecast has it making landfall as a Cat 1 Sat. morning and being a tropical storm as it passes over the Danville area that evening, which would certainly bring considerable winds (if not rain as well) if true. Truthfully, I don't see how I can make the trip and leave my wife and house back in Raleigh if a Cat 1 storm is coming through.
If things work out as you describe, however, I think it will be a great learning experience. I have seen folks have trouble in the rain at VIR, though, so I'll really have to be on my toes!

I'm making up my list of foul-weather gear to bring now.
Thanks for the updates!

Yes, I can certainly understand your situation; I would not leave my family either if things develop the way you describe, I hope it does not even come close to that.
In 2004 at VIR, there was pouring rain and I was in an STi testing a brand new suspension with full-thread RA1s. The car was hooking up so well with this setup and wipers at full speed, I cannot remember having a better time on the track... for the first 8 laps, then... a slight oversteer between turns 5 and 6 and I found myself on the tire wall, hit pretty hard, car nearly totaled and I was in shock. It took me a long while to return to the track.
Now I am looking forward to rain at VIR, just to make sure I have full closure on that incident by keeping the car on the track
