PCA Potomac Autocross #6, 14 Sep
The next PCA Potomac Autocross is Sunday, 14 September. It will be held at the Bowie Baysox stadium ( directions here). Registration opens about 0730, tech closes by 0830 (so don't be late ), racing should start by 0930 and usually runs until about 1430. Who else is coming?

It will be good to meet you guys.
tme110 - since you have few mods, you are in P5 class. I'll still be in S1 if I get the chance to change back to my street tires.

Like FT said, we're in P5. You don't really need to do anything to the car besides drive there.
Once you arrive, go to the registration table and register. Then, empty everything "removable" out of your car -- things like floor mats, anything in either trunk, etc; basically anything that can slide around or become airborne inside the car. Then, go to tech, and have your car inspected. At tech, they will write your numbers on the windows. If you have a number set, you can use that instead, but you don't need to go get a set.
There will be a driver's meeting about 0900, and the racing will start about 0930.
Also, you might want to bring a large garbage bag or a plastic sheet, to cover the stuff you removed from the car, in case it rains.

So what do we need to bring? Cost? Helmets? ID?...ect. Nothing's worse than driving to the DMV 50 minutes away to find out you are missing a form, needed a parent as a co-signer, etc and have to go back and get it and waste gas, ect. I know you told me some of this stuff at the car show Bill, but I want to be 100% prepared and have no confusion or anxiety when I show up.
Thanks

Drivers license, $40 cash, and helmet if you have it. There shouldn't be anything else you need; a tire pressure gauge is very useful, but I have it and don't mind sharing.

ok. This is starting to suck. I am on a new project at work and have almost no access to the internet anymore. (I just dont think about it when I get home). I tried to register last night but the site said registration was closed.
but I think it says I can just show up and register? I just wanted to check before I drove out there to find out that I cant register.

I won't be able to make it; it turns out that my left toe link has started to play around, not safe to exert further pressure on it Have fun.

Congratulations John, Bill, Mike; looking at the results, you guys did awesome. The P5 class seems to be the most exciting one with John and Bill within 2 points of one another and the winner of the last event will win the class, Bill cannot settle for 2nd place unfortunately; down to the wire
I am sorry I missed the event, it seems it was a fun course. There some good times:
Larry Olsen in S1: 57.6 with the Boxster (impressive given no LSD and street tires)
John in P5: 56.3
Bill in P5: 56.7
Mike in P5: 58.8 (very impressive given it was his first time I believe)
Interestingly, once again, Mr. Pappas with his S2 997 TT did a 55.1. That guy can certainly drive.

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.

Autocross # 7 on October 19th will decide the whole bag of marbles for P5 between BillC and me. One of us is gonna get a smack down - hopefully, Bill will have other plans that day. But seriously, the competition has been really great this year and I hope we can finish 1 & 2, in any order.

Hey jcriggs, will this autocross work like the last one? As in can non PCA members still go to it as long as we arrive and register early enough? Ok I've got this one marked on the calendar. Location? Time, etc?
Actually, is there just a website where I can view all the upcoming autocrosses for that PCA zone that will list all the times and locations, etc?
Thanks

The next autocross is October 19th, at the Bowie Baysox stadium. Except for jcriggs, his autocross is at Summit Point, yeah, that's it....
Time should be the same as all the others: registration will open around 0730 and close around 0830, with racing starting around 0930.
Everything should work the same as in the past. Registration is open to everyone, assuming we don't run out of room (never have in the past); if they do have to restrict registration, then it'll be PCA Potomac members, then all PCA members, then all non-members.

You can look here: PCA Potomac Autocross Schedule. Or, you can just start at the top of the PCA Potomac web site to see everything that's going on.
The next autocross will definitely be interesting. Never expected to even be in contention, let alone having a very slim lead for the class. Hey John, isn't the 19th the weekend you were supposed to travel on business?
Mike did really well. If he'd had r-comps, the finish order might have been very different. Gonna have to watch out for him next season.
