Final PCA Potomac Autocross of 2008, 19 Oct
The next PCA Potomac Autocross is Sunday, 19 October. This is #7, the last one of the 2008 season.
The autocross will be held at the Bowie Baysox stadium ( directions here). Registration opens about 0730, tech closes by 0830 (so don't be late ), racing should start by 0930 and usually runs until about 1430.
Who else is coming?

I'm in!!! Ok this time I can make it and I just got some new PS2's put on the car today. I have a few other questions... Can I bring a friend? If so, could he/ she ride in the car with me if they also have a helmet? And if I bring a friend is it still $40, or now $80...etc? And as for helmets... where can I rent those again . Oh and food... should we bring food or will there be a hotdaog stand or something?

Glad you can make it!
Yes, you can bring a friend. If he/she is only observing, there is no charge: the entry fee is only for each driver (even if some drivers are sharing a car). They normally do not want passengers in the cars on the track, but instructors are allowed and if your friend is your "instructor"....
They will have some loaner helmets available at the track. No charge for the helmets, but you may need to share with another driver.
Bring food. There is no close-by place for food, and there isn't enough time between runs to go get something and return in time.

Hey thanks for the response Bill. Sadly, again I might not be able to go now . Before I can do anything else, I have to finish my college applications, new rules. I have 3/4 done, and one left to go. I'll be working on it all day today, but no guarantees I'm going to finish it... so count me in as a toss up. I have to work before I can play.
As a side note, I was reading up on "breaking in" your tires. Tirerack says that you should drive the first 500 miles on your new tires with easy acceleration and overall non-performance driving, to consitantly and evenly remove any left over residue that remains on the tires from when they pulled it out of the tire mold. True? I mean, wouldn't performance oriented driving further this removal process? Although uniform wear would not be apparent. Has anyone practiced this 500 mile new tire break in? If I recall correctly, Bill, you had your new racing tires on your CS at the car show, did you put them on with that intent?

Well, you guys missed a fun time. It was a little cold early on, but it warmed up nicely by mid-day. Racing was very tight, and we had some entertaining guest entries, like a highly-modified Civic that kept doing spins and big power slides and a couple of very fast Cobra replicas.
Also, y'all missed a Potomac Region first -- a CaymanS ("Prepared" class) was second-fastest overall, beating out all "Improved" entries and all but one "Modified" entry (but no one ever beats that guy anyway, his car is basically a full-blown race car). I'm not sure of the exact number of entries, but it was at least 50.

Hey Bill, sorry I could not stick around to see the final results. I know that you and I were among the very few entries that ran sub-60 second runs. Do you know who got the top raw times? Sounds like you were just behind Bob Williams in his "Modified" race car.
I want to be the first to congratulate you on winning first place for PCA Potomac Autocross in Prepared class. It was great competition all year and the final event came down to a close finish. I thought I had you after my 4th run but you pulled out a really great run just after that. Well done!

Thanks, John! It was really tight there between us, you finished 0.4 seconds behind me. Actually, 2nd through 8th was really close: Bob got first overall with a 56.something, 2nd was roughly 3 seconds slower (59.370); but 2nd through 8th were all 59.somethings. Like I said, it was tight.
Of course, I'm not sure if the list I looked at was just Porsches or if it also included the guests. So, we'll have to wait until the results are actually posted to see the final results.

Bill, John et all; you guys seem to be pushing all hard
Congratulations Bill, being only 3 secs behind that 911RS is a fantasitic result; it must have been some excellent driving. And of course congratulations on winning the class on your rookie year
I really wish I could be there to enjoy watching your runs all; hopefully next year I'll be a little more of the regulars. Hope to see you all at Summit.
