3/28 event at Porsche of Nashua (NH) - PCA National's Cayman Tech Chair presenting
Since, contrary to popular belief in this sub-forum , Northeast does include such states as MA, NH, ME... here is an event for us not willing to shlep ourselves 4-5 hours to NJ.
How to Make Your Porsche Handle Better
Porsche of Nashua
Saturday, March 28, 2009
1:00 PM
170 MaineDunstable Road, Nashua, NH
PCA National Tech Chair Will DiGiovanni is coming to Porsche of Nashua to discuss how to improve the handling of your Porsche on the track and highway.
Will, a professional in the racing circuit, as well as PCA National's Boxster/Cayman Tech Chair, will explain the fine points of how and why race cars are set up and prepped differently than street cars. He will point out on a Porsche on a lift in Porsche of Nashua's ultra-modern garage, the components and specific points of adjustment. He will cover those areas which the average Porsche buff can handle themselves (or with a little help from an experienced PCA driver) such as: Tires -- compound, tread, pressure; Shocks -- adjust stiffness; Weight -- Distribution and Reduction and C.G. changes etc.
To register, please call Porsche of Nashua at (603) 595-1707, Extension 3744 and ask for Heather.
Directions to 170 Main Dunstable Road, Nashua, NH 03060 - Driving on the Everett Turnpike from the North, take Exit 5E over the bridge and bear Right

Should be a really nice event. We are starving here for those
PCA Northcountry events are usually really well-organized, since it is very down-to earth club and everyone pitches in.

Apollo, Will did a tech session for NNJR at his shop. Our own CaymanKen's car was put on a lift. Will demonstrated wheel alignment and checked the corner balancing of Ken's Cayman. It was a really informative session and Will is a very knowledge guy. I would encourage anyone thinking about attending this event to make it a must attend one.

didn't see the event list under their website, is this an actually event? Or is it just a speech from the PCA National's Cayman Tech Chair committees?

It was a fantastic event! Will answered lots of questions. I was selfish and asked lots of questions afterwards specific to Cayman S, his experience, preferences, and suggestions.
He talked me out of prioritizing LSD over suspension mods first. Pretty much he suggested changing out the springs, popping in either GT3 arms or swapping out upper mount, get 2degrees negative camber on all four, 1/16" tow out front, 0 in the back and do one season like that. Once I have learned to drive with that setup, than do LSD.

LSD - Limited Slip Differential
|
 |
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
