First family photo....

It's a beautiful day so I thought I would get my kids together for a family photo. What do you think...any family resemblance? My oldest if a bit sesitive and the younger one is full of herself....but they both get a lot of looks!

Nice combo - does the 914 run as good as it looks?

Thanks. No too bad...Shes a 76 2.0 with 90 HP of fun!! It's been converted to Webers so it's a bit finicky but still a blast to drive

Nice family. I am sure they look like dad.

Re: First family photo....

Nice pair!! I've recently become a fan of the 914 after being a hater for a long time, and I may soon be in the market. Any tips on what to look for and what prices are appropriate. I think it's the perfect compliment to the Cayman.

A Hater!?! Whats not to love?

3 things to look for...rust, rust and rust. Most importantly, "the Hell hole" which is the battery tray and frame member just below. If battery acid (accompanied by water) leaked down, it would rot out the structural member. Other rust spots are floor pans, longitudinals, jacking posts...
They ALL have some rust. If it's minimal..who cares unless you want to show it. They are fun to tinker with and more fun to drive. Gets just as many looks as the Cayman!

You can pick up a pretty decent 914-4 2.0 for as little as $6K or a very nice one for $10K. Classifieds on 914World forum usually has a full spectrum listed for sale by guys who know their cars....and of course always some listed on ebay.

Looked at a '73 914 1.7 this morning. Seems to be pretty clean. Minor surface rust and a few bad spots (but none structural). Needs a clutch, synchros, brakes and tires. Seller is asking a bit too much and not sure we'll be able to agree on price based on work it needs..

When I was a kid, I just didn't understand the 914. I thought it didn't fit into the Porsche lineage because it looked so different. (Hey, I was just a kid!)

Now I "get" it. And, the 914 seems like it is fun to drive and an affordable second car.

Interestingly, I had the opposite experience. When I was 12 my uncle pulled into our driveway with a sliver 72 and I thought it was the coolest car I had ever seen. I thought it had such a clean but radical look to it....still think so!
