Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
I lived in NJ all my life, and I remember not thinking twice at flipping someone off... not the case here in FL... you never know who's packing heat!
What a waste of life...

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
interesting take on what the public thinks of this tradgedy, maybe the P car driver was out of control, who knows we weren't there, but did he deserve to die ? reading the comments below the article seems everyone supports this kid for running over this guy , sad. wonder if the comments would be the same if the guy was driving a different car

Unbelievable. Don't understand why everyone takes the kid's side. The other guy is DEAD.

My guess is because the kid tried to walk away from the conflict 2 or 3 times.
Isn't there a legal phrase??? "If not, but for your actions" (as-in, this wouldn't have happened) if the Porsche driver didn't push, and push, and then push again.
I understand road rage....but after 1 or 2 confrontations, you are asking for trouble if you keep going at it.
If I was the kid... I might have been fearing for my life.
(still a tragedy, that someone had to die)

I don't know how things went down exactly but it seems to me the kid had might have had an alternative....lock doors....Cell phone....911.

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
Take away the cars and just call it driver A and driver B and I think we'd all be siding with the kid. Or say the kid was in a Porsche and the other guy in the SUV. If I were the kid I probably would have done everything in my power to get out of there too including running the guy over. If some stranger goes nuts on me banging on my car I'm not just going to roll up the windows and dial 911. Who knows if he has a gun or a baseball bat or is going to drag me out of the car and beat the **** out of me. I'm going to get out of there even if that means driving over him to get away. Sorry.

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
I have to side with the kid. The other driver was out of his car and out of control. If it didn't end the way it did the younger driver might have ended up in ICU or in a refrigerated cubicle in the coroner's office.
The first rule of self defense "It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6."

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
Welcome to the 21st century, isn't it great how we all get along? Not saying the guy deserved to get run over but like the last couple post's said who know's what the guy could have or was going to do, the kid was scared shitless. Now if the kid stopped and backed up a couple times, different story. Then again we just read the article, weren't there to see.
Me, prolly would have lipped off and been in a world of hurt thinking I could have calmed the guy down. Just amazes me how violent people can get over nothin, or so it seems to have been the case...

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
There are a lot of too tightly wound people in this world. I have to side w/ the kid as well. Porsche driver/owner doesn't mean anything one way or the other.

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
I too would have to side with the kid on this one. In the story we were told the build of the aggressor was a muscular 6-foot-5 man. Now just imagine that this kid is a skinny 5'7", 150lbs kid. He tried to get away once just to have the large man catch him and block him in. The kid had nowhere to go, he couldn't back up and now this guy is coming towards him. We all know what happens if you corner any creature.....they will fight harder. The kid saw the only way out was the way this guy was coming. Sad that it came down to this but I could not fault the kid for doing what he did. Plus the kid was not trying to flee the scene once he ran over the guy.
Now many lives are affected because one man lost his cool.
Just a thought....I wonder if the aggressor was overly aggressive because of a substance in his system. Just something that crossed my mind.

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
From what I can see, the kid is the sympathetic character in the story, but I've been around long enough to know you can't count on news accounts to give you every side of the story of a crime. I can't help but notice that the deceased is referred to as a "Porsche owner" - is that supposed to imply something bad to the general public?

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
I'm local to this story. I surf at Long beach, and it's my favorite beach in the summer. In fact this accident happened right in front of Lifes a Bagel where I get a wicked everything with a shmear, lox and tomato.
Sounds like the dead guy was 'roiding.....

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
little update here , bail was set at 5 million dollars on the 'innocent kid', guess you can't runover someone completely and kill them and then turn around and come back and say ' I felt threatened '

Re: Be Carefull of Road Rage Out There
The reason they keep referring to him as the 'Porsche owner' is because they are withholding his name pending notification of his next of kin.

That is simply an indication that the judge doesn't believe he acted purely in self defense, or that you don't have the right to defend yourself. One of the two.
This goes along with my hitch hiker theory. Conventional wisdom says, "Don't pick up a hitch hiker. They might be a psycho-killer." Also, never hitch hike...you might get picked up by a Psycho killer.
So eventually the Psycho killers will pick up other Psycho killers and everything will work itself out.
Just like in this case. The hot head met his match.
Think of an example of a situation where you would chase someone down and pound on the hood of his car and block him with your body.
Police officers do it all the time of course, but that is their job. Plus they can then shoot the guy if he moves toward them. In fact, LEOs call this the "Give me permission to kill you" move. Step in front of any citizen's car (like a bull fighter) and if he doesn't stop, shoot. Weeding out the garden of society one idiot at a time.

There is so much truth to this statement. In my reckless youth I flipped off someone when I was going to college in Florida and the person I gave the bird to stuck a gun out of his car and pointed it into the air. He didn't point it at me, but the point was taken.
Needless to say I made an abrupt stop and u-turn but that was the last time I got aggressive like that. Now living in Texas, I wouldn't even think about raging behind the wheel WAY too many guns out there.
Be safe out there...

I personally think that is why people are more polite and mind their own business more in the southwest. The reply to a flipped bird or an insult might be a big bang that reshapes your whole universe. I grew up on the east coast and after joining the service went to Yuma, Arizona for some training. Went into one of the local watering holes and saw sign that said "Gun Room" or something similar. I leaned in and saw multiple firearms and holster belts, then a gent inside asked if I was checking my gun and I instantly understood. One more piece of data used in changing a dumb kid into a crazy young man.
