New Cayman owner in Roswell GA
I am a new Cayman S owner, having traded in a 2007 GT3 last week at Hennessy for this Cobalt Blue over Stone Grey beauty. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision, and am loving the Cayman. Can't wait to get past the 2K break-in period (I am being a good boy) to really push this baby. As I am new to the Cayman Club, I have two questions about the forum. If I post a thread (like this), I assume it goes to all members. If I just want to see threads posted by folks in Zone 3, do I just go to that area of the forum? Secondly, besides just going to the forum and surfing the threads, is there anything else I should do to receive messages or emails about events in Zone 3 that I would find of interest? Thanks for any help. If you see my Cayman out and about in the Atlanta area, I am the one with the "FLATSIX" license plate and the big smile.

What an interesting road to a CaymanS; 997S to the GT3, and now the CaymanS. (I sat with you and your family at the monthly PCA dinner at the Italian place a few months ago, and have the black CS that was in your run group at the DE in June....).
Everyone can see Zone3, so it's open to one and all, but there is nothing that would assimlate all of a Zone3 person's threads from other parts of the forum.
As far as general information in the area or Atlanta in particular, it's kind of a free for all on the Zone3 thread, or of course you can PM folks if you would like to.
Obvioulsy you're involed with the Peachstate PCA so you know about all those events, and we certainly need more Cayman/CaymanS participation at the AutoXs as it is usually me, Dan V, and maybe one or two other random cars that show up for Stock, while Grant is usually all by himself in prepared. And for the Concours, we're short on cars too and you don't have to compete against Steve and his 100 mile 997 in our group, so please join us for those events too; I've been doing "French" this year, but will probably do full next even though I don't want to go through the hassle of pulling the engine cover.......
I have also tried to herd togther people for the Caffine and Octane monthly gathering at the Avenues which is now the 1st Sunday of the month; if you get there early, we ususally start the Porsches out on the top row as soon as you make the turn to the right into the event area.
Glad to have an active member of the PCA come into the Cayman fold, and look forward to seeing again at the local events. I don't think I'll make it to the monthly dinner in November, just too far to drive to that location.
Regards,
David

Welcome bprzekop! I'll agree with In2Esses when he says you have taken a "road less traveled" to your CS. I would like to hear why you made the decision to go with a Cayman from the car you had. Enjoy your ride and post some pics when you get a chance.

The decision to switch from the GT3 to the Cayman S was the old "push/pull" situation. The "push" was as a result of nagging problems I had been having with the GT3, which had it sitting in Hennessy Porsche more than my garage over the past two months. First the sports exhaust stopped working. Diagnosis? Faulty solenoid. OK, replace that, seems to be working but not as deep throated as before, but maybe my imagination. Nope, few days later stopped working all together yet again. Diagnosis? Faulty solenoid. Oops, thought we already replaced that. Must have been faulty. Two in a row? Let's go for three. This one stopped working after 20 miles. Back to the drawing board. Porsche says replace both side exhausts. Have to wait couple weeks for them to arrive from Germany. Ok, let's replace those and the solenoid. Back to normal operation finally. Then the oil leak. Oops, looks like the Rear Main Seal, let's replace. Need the car for a few days, here's a Cayman loaner. (starting to get the pull here?) RMS all fixed. Oops, still leaking. OK, let's replace the RMS (again) and the FMS to be sure. Here's a Cayman loaner. Oops, brakes on GT3 are squealing really loudly. Can you make a sound recording, Porsche doesn't believe you. OK, done. Ah, it's the rear brakes, let's replace rear pads (not rotors, these are PCCB's and don't really wear much). Oops, brakes still squealing, must be fronts. Porsche says its because they weren't cooled down properly after heavy use. Uh, wrong, I always do that. Well, they only have so many heat cycles and then they squeal. Uh, only 7000 miles? Yeah. Uh, I have had 4 Porsches and the brakes never squealed. Well these are different. You bet they are. Finally PCNA says they'll replace front brake pads as a good customer concession under warranty but only this time. Guess what? Brakes kept squealing. Meanwhile, I probably put 1000 miles on various Caymans (standard Cayman, with Tip no less) and loved them. I specc'd my ideal Cayman on line, and when I went to pick up my GT3 at Hennessy, that exact car down to virtually all options I wanted was on their floor, and on sale. No brainer.
Bottom line? Loved the GT3, fantastic track car, but very highly strung, much higher maintenance than "street" Porsches which have become as reliable as Mercedes sedans in my experience, and expensive to maintain (went through two sets of tires in 7000 miles, lucky all that other stuff was under warranty. And I must add that Hennessy Porsche's service department was SUPERB and bent over backwards to do their best to help me through all these problems.). Add to that the heavy clutch (gets old after a while in traffic), ultra low spoiler that made many driveways impassable (had to stop going certain places), and it was not the best daily driver. To me the Cayman is a superb all rounder: fantastic daily car but excellent sports car as well. I am sure I will get to appreciate it even more in autocrosses and DE's, but for now I am truly loving this wonderful car. If you get a GT3 for track use, you will absolutely love it. Short of a cup car there is nothing like it. Daily car? Been there, done that (well, tried), moved on. (and in my opinion, UP).

bprzekop,
Welcome! I also live in Roswell and have a Meteor gray S. I very rarely see any Caymans except near my office (around he corner from Porsche North American Headquarters). I believe another member here, Devsol, has a midnight blue CS in Alpharetta - beautiful car. I went from Ford Truck to Cayman so I can't weigh in on the GT3 move

Congratulations and welcome, hope you enjoy your CS, You'll enjoy this site and club, it is fantastic. Just curious, how would you compare the 997 to the CS ? Very interesting path to your CS, and very troubling to hear of all the problems with the GT3. Thanks Jim V.

Re: New Cayman owner in Roswell GA
Re: comparing the 997 Carrera S I had for two years to my new Cayman S: the 997 Carrera S was a fantastic car, really had no complaints, traded it in on the GT3 because I was looking for a more track-focused car, and the S was really more of a "GT/Street" car, great in its own right, but the slippery slope of performance got me and I went to the GT3. The Cayman S reminds me in many ways of the Carrera S, quite frankly; reasonably comfortable ride for a sports car, yet tight handling; everything feels "smooth", from engine to clutch to ride quality. Obviously a bit less power in the Cayman S (295 vs. 355), but the Cayman has plenty for its weight. My Carrera S list price was mid 90's, plus I added some things afterwards at dealer ( sports exhaust, Sirius satellite radio, SatNav), so when you take cost into consideration, the Cayman S is an outstanding buy vs. the 911.

Welcome bprzekop!
Yeah I know, I'm from NY, but after spending some time in GA for CrocFest 08, I feel like an honorary member. Lots of good folks on here.
Sorry to hear about the GT3 issues. That's my dream car too right now. I understand the facelifted version will have a different motor in it. Hopefully this will resolve the RMS issues.
