Southwest or?
Anyone like Mountain West better? Our friends in Texas like to think of themselves as being in the Southwest too.

Re: Southwest or?
Yeah but Texas has Texarkana now, so I don't think people in Texas will wander into the Southwest forum too often... Mountain West I think of Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana but with Southwest I think of desert southwest like Arizona and New Mexico along with southern Utah and Colorado. I don't think any name is going to be perfect but if there is a better one that people in this forum want, I'm all for it.

Re: Southwest or?
you need to come visit NM & AZ to get that desert thing out of your mind. We have more moutains for you to discover. Maybe that is why we are in the mountain time zone. I will give you a guided tour!

Re: Southwest or?
How about Four Corners Caymans? That is the name I think when considering all four Southwest states together.
And whoever lumped Texas with Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana has a few screws loose.

I thought of the 4 corners too, again really up to the people in that area to decide and let me know what they want to be called. I drove across New Mexico and Arizona when I went to Croctoberfest 2. Yes there are some mountains but primarily it is desert...
As for lumpin Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana together is there some other states you think Texas "should" be lumped with?

Ken you need a better atlas. Come visit and we will show you that just because where you saw does not mean you are in Kansas all the time (written from a back porche of 7000').

Not a "native" Texan, so don't have that particular axe to grind, BUT always think of Texas separately. It is a very, very big place. But lumping Texas w/ Oklahoma for sure will be like "them's shooting words, son..."
Louisiana w/ Mississippi, Alabama, maybe Florida as Gulf Coast?
Texas by itself as "The Lone Stars" (apologies to Mel Brooks and "Spaceballs").

Re: Southwest or?
Well I wanted to avoid having a single forum for say just California or Texas or Florida so that activity in those states helps generate/spill-over into other states and drive additional interest and activity. Additionally, I started with the PCA zones and made modifications where I thought appropriate and where it wouldn't tear up too much of the existing message traffic, splitting off Texas by itself would require a lot of work to sift out Texas only messages that exist from others that were previously in the zone 5 as well. I'm certainly open to modifications as we move along into the future, but for now I'd like to start with it as it is, and yes I realize Texas and Oklahoma have a long standing conflict in football, but I can lump Kansas with Missouri (Free State vs. Slave State - annual Border War in football, basketball, etc.) then I think Texas and Oklahoma "could" survive together... well at least for awhile...

Re: Southwest or?
+1 Four Corners
Call me old fashioned, but I liked the zone numbers. It was easier to find when I just looked for zone 9 in the ordered list.

Re: Southwest or?
I'd only consider El Paso as part of the southwest. It's like the forgotten TX city: only one with Mountain time, and next large city is San Antonio, 500+ miles away. It should have been El Paso, NM .
