AX at TMS on 13JUL
Anybody coming out to play at the Texas Region SCCA Autocross (http://www.autocross.com/texasregion/) this coming Sunday (13JUL)? It'll be held on the bus lot at Texas Motor Speedway. That surface is... ah,er,um... "smooth", making finding grip a top priority. But it's also a clean surface (unlike the Mineralring), so you won't have to worry about your paint getting chipped.
I'll be running in tire class since I won't have race rubber, and it'll be my first AX in the Cayman (I drove a Miata for a number of years in CS). I'd enjoy the chance to meet some of my fellow Cayman pilots!

Can't make it but just curious....down here in Houston, I've found the PCA and BMW-CCA autocrosses to be loads of fun and pretty laid back, while the SCCA ones were all "business." After being cursed at by an official for spectating from the wrong area at one of them, I decided I'd stick with the club races. Are they any nicer in Big D?

Sorry about the wrong date in the title... it's 13JUL!
I ran a Miata for 3 years with:- SCCA
- Equipe Rapide
- North Texas S2000 Owners Club
- Lonestar BMW Owners Club
And I found all of them to be very well run, with a good balance between fun and "seriousness" (funny, but I never made a Maverick PCA club AX with the Miata). The SCCA was perhaps slightly more "serious" than the others, but I have always found them to be very friendly and never had any difficulties.
This will be my first AX in nearly 3 years, so I don't know if anything has changed. I don't expect it to be any different -- fun, safe, friendly -- but I'll let you know!

mtbscott...i had a similar experience with SCCA in dallas. I was just a spectator and not signed up to "work". When I refused to work the course, I was cursed by one the "officials"...I'll stick with BMW, s2000 and PCA autoX events...

To track or AX, that is not much of a question
Ah, now I remember where everyone in North Texas will be this weekend:

Well, if you are not out at the track, come on out to TMS and run around some cones with me!

I fixed the date in the title, it should read 13JUL now.

Thanks. And I'm taking a remedial calendar reading course, so hopefully that won't happen again.
