Carrera GT at West Houston Porsche
I stopped by West Houston Porsche on Saturday and noticed that they have a nice 2005 Carrera GT in the showroom. Lots of "Do Not Touch" signs on it along with a $449,000 price tag. Sweet.

Is the Engine signed by a race car (F1 or CHAMP/CART) driver? If it is then I know who it belongs to. hehe

Although the Carrera GT is my personal dream car, good luck with getting that price. A year after production ended there was still around 70 of them sitting unsold in US dealerships, many were bought back by Porsche and resold in Europe and the UK. Rennlist has a pretty active CGT forum and most of them that have changed hands recently seem to be in the $350-375K region. As cool as the car is, it didn't set the world on fire with sales when new and has yet to start appreciating. I predict in 30 years they will be very desirable but that's a long way off.

I have two theories:
A) The Porsche Carrera GT Marketing Team did a horrible job.
B) It is a matter of individuals having price brackets or a top price for specific automotive brands.
Ex: 75K for a BMW, 150K for a Porsche, 300K for a Lamborghini, 1 Million for a Ferrari... Not exactly like that, but more between the lines of "with 400K I might as well buy a Ferrari or a Lamborghini or something".
Just like mtbscott (and probably most of us) would like to own a Carrera GT, definitely a nice Lemans engineering piece.

I know of two Houstonian owners that I have met. Guess I won't disclose their names to avoid getting a spank from them. lol

I love to get myself one CGT! But for $400K, I'd probably buy some other cars...

The true question is: How do they perform on the track?
I'm of the school that if you buy something, you shouldn't pamper it. I'd love to see someone truly enjoying one of these cars out at the track! They look great in the driveway and cruising down Westheimer at 30 mph, but, hey, how boring!
The first thing I'm going to do when I buy my first Ferrari is take it to the track.

If you check out Rennlist's CGT forum, you'll see that a fair amount of them have been tracked. They are allegedly a handful too, frightfully fast and not particularly forgiving. There was a rather infamous fatality trackday incident in one that you could find in a search.

I've had the good fortune to spend some time behind the wheel and while it is a lot of car I think it's actually quite benign for a 600hp beast. Easy to control at the limit and as connected to the driver as a large lotus elise. My friend who has one drives it primarily on the track.
