Windshield replacement (Dallas)

Has anyone in the Dallas area replaced their windshield? I am going to do this after I return from a 2,000 mile road trip. If anyone has I would appreciate comments on who you used, pricing and your satisfaction level. I need to get a "short list" of installers to consider. Thanks!

I hope your experience is better than the one I just avoided.... My son just moved to Togo, West Africa with the Peace Corps and left me his 2002 mini to sell...I went to the mini dealer to get a quote to replace a cracked windshield...

Sit down and grab the arms of the chair !!!!

$1200.00 Is mini crazy??????

That would be about 10% of the net value of the car. Fortunately, a local glass company will do it for about $275....

I just had mine replaced about three weeks ago because of a crack. I called my local dealer to ask who does their glass work, and they referred me to a local company who are "the only ones we let touch our cars for glass work..." as my service guy told me. The glass was only available through Porsche as it turns out - Safelite shows a part number, but can't actually get the glass. Maybe that's because I have the rain sensor, which is a different part. Anyway, the glass was about $580 and the labor at the glass shop was another $175. I paid a $250 insurance deductible.

Make sure they remember to hook up the radio antenna...

Good luck,
brad

Why is this glass so soft!?!?!?! 14K miles and I have 3 big chips and many smaller ones. I've never seen anything like it. And of course I have rain sensor which I'm sure increases the replacement cost considerably.

Being as I have had my Cayman only 10 days, I have yet to replace any glass! But I have had other windshields and windows replaced at Deep Ellum Auto Glass and they do outstanding work. I was just there a couple of weeks ago getting my MINI's driver window replaced after some vandal broke it in my driveway. (And they give a nice discount to members of the MetroplexMINI.org club -- perhaps to other clubs as well.)

I live in Plano and it is well worth the trip down there. Besides, if you go at lunch, you can go around the block to Deep Ellum Sushi while you wait!

Re: Windshield replacement (Dallas)

I hope I'll never need to replace my windshield. But this is great info. Thanks!

Re: Windshield replacement (Dallas)

Hello all. I have gathered three additional names as potential jobbers to replace my windshield. I will report the results after I get this done. Thanks for the Deep Elum Glass lead Wordsmith!

That is cheap. Momentum wanted to charge me $960 plus labor for a windshield back in June of 2007 (yep... 32 miles on my car when it broke).

I went to a local place I've used before and watched a moron drag is foot across my sill as he got in. They bought the class through Momentum and installed it for $1150. What a racket.
