Lost my Cayman

I haven't been here in a while but I thought you guys might be interested in what happened to my Cayman and 911. They were both flooded in the heavy rains we had a while back. My garage is about 200 feet from Buffalo Bayou and bayou water came in through the drain.

Both cars had water to just under the door handles. The insurance company totaled them both and I came out pretty good.

It was painful to see the tow truck drag my beautiful Atlas Grey Cayman out of that garage. They scraped the front along the concrete and nearly pulled the front off the car.

We decided to cut back to one Porsche while the economy is doing so badly so I went out Saturday and bought a new '09 997S.

Here's a picture of the 911 after the water had dropped about a foot...

Here's some shots of the new 997. We'll probably get another Cayman next year.

Re: Lost my Cayman

That's really awful, but a new 997 is of course some consolation. I'm sure the whole thing was just an ungodly headache.

Sorry to hear about the flooding. Never heard of the Buffalo Bayou - where is it?

Re: Lost my Cayman

Also - hope you have a detached garage and didn't get the same water in your house. Been through that, and it sucks.

Buffalo Bayou snakes through Houston and dumps into the ship channel.

Re: Lost my Cayman

I've seen some ridiculous pics from that flood. The Omni Riverway was covered to the second floor and it's already on a hill! Thankfully we didn't have any damage since we're pretty close too.

Re: Lost my Cayman

From 2 beautiful cars to one beautiful car is a bummer, but it could be a lot worse.

It's a bummer? Coming out ahead on losing two cars! I would take a loss like that every day.

Re: Lost my Cayman

Definitely your local Porsche dealer was the happiest of you all... I wouldn't want to imagine how you felt to see your pretty beasts flooded even though the brand new 911 is mashallah stunning!

Re: Lost my Cayman

I'm really enjoying the new 911. I've only got 200 miles on it so far so I haven't really been able to drive it hard yet. My wife and I really miss the Cayman though. Atlas Grey with Carrera Classics was such a great looking car. I hope we can order another one just like it soon.

Here's some more photos from the flood. I marked the water line on one so you guys can see how much water will definitely total your Cayman.

Re: Lost my Cayman

I wonder how much they would have charged to buy them back?
Depending on how difficult to repair, one can often get a great vehicle for dirt cheap!

of course it will have a Salvage title, but $6k for the flooded Cayman would not be unrealistic, then you could put a 3.8 in there.......

Going from 2 Caymans to one 911?? That would be a bummer to me.

Love your wheels, Dave!

griff, your new ride is HOT. But I don't think that it would be enough to erase the images of what happened to my (your) two Porsches in the flood!

...hoping you're coming to grips with all that...
