Does 13 do any GTGs?

I never see any GTGs for Zone 13. Are we just rugged individualists or aren't there enough of us?

There was one attempt at a get together last year and I ended up being the only one who showed up. Hopefully we'll try to have a more successful one in the Spring.

Well, if things turn out the same way, at least you'll have company.

Cool! I'm thinking we should have the next one in WI since the IL contingent was a no show last time.

I think we should wait until it warms up a little. Then I think we should try and put something together in Lake Geneva or Kenosha.

This thread has me concerned. This year may finally be the year I am able to get my Cayman S, but the lack of activity in this region has me concerned.

I currently have an S2000 and a STi and those boards are always hopping with activity. I realize those cars have been out longer and are half the price but still, this region is DEAD. Geography (read winter) will of course have an impact as well I suppose.

Are the PCA boards for this region/Chicago area more active? Or are Cayman owners indeed a bunch of recluses? Which is fine if they are, just curious is all.

The Cayman Club as a whole has some great info/posts, so that's all well and good it seems.

This post is NOT meant to be a slam in any way, I am just curious as to why this is such a lack of activity.

Thanks.

You can certainly count on having at least one more person at the next GTG. Just bought my CS and I am interested in getting together with other owners.

Actually, this thread was started before I became Zone 13 Coordinator. There was simply no orginization to the Zone before, but now, with spring upon us, Zone 13 and Chicago will be seeing some coffee and cars, some GTGs and some other stuff. Let me know if you have any ideas!

On the other boards I have seen a wide range of ideas.

Drives to nice locales, like Starved Rock near Ottawa, IL w/barbeques

Starbucks parking lot meets

Hooters meets

Paint ball and gtg/drives

Gun range gtg/drives

Dealership gtg/drives

These don't need to be limited to just Cayman(S)'s either of course.

Autocrosses are an obvious spot to meet-n-greet although I understand there is an aversion to SCCA events, the TSSCC has alot of nice events. I don't mention the PCA event due to the limitation on participants. I undertand from reading they are good though.

Maybe there is a way to sticky a caledar of events that may be of interest to the zone?

To be honest I don't know what it is about this region and get togethers. Last year we talked about doing something and I was the only one who showed. Hopefully having a coordinator will help this along and we'll have some social events this year. In the Type R group I used to belong to we had at least one BBQ a year and usually a couple other get togethers going to the annual Expo or something.

Right you are.

I'm thinking about doing a GTG some Saturday (or is Sunday better?) morning in the Chicago area - Heckler and I were previously talking about the northern suburbs or possibly Kenosha - sometime in late March, when the snow's gone and the roads are dry enough. Let me know on this thread your thoughts or ideas.

I know how this has to sound after my previous posts, but I go under the knife for wrist surgery mid-March and my right arm will be in a cast for 6 weeks then therapy. Unfortunately, I'll be out of the Cayman driving business for a while. We're getting ready to buy my first automatic transmission car (probably a Subaru) and I'll be more than happy to show up with that if no one minds.

As for ideas, I thought about meeting somewhere we could get to fairly easily, that had good parking, and some food and beverages. Up in Wisconsin there's a few places that come to mind, but I think something similar in a more central location like Gurnee, Libertyville, Vernon Hills, etc. would probably work better for the Chicago folks. Anyone have any ideas for places there? I know there's plenty of chain restaraunts (Outback, Chili's, etc.) in Gurnee if people were interested in places like that.

With Zone 13 covering 4+ states it might make sense to start multiple small local GTGs. An informal group from one of the hot rod forums I belong to meets each Saturday morning on the SW side for breakfast. This same group often uses the forum to conect to attend shows and other events.

Culturally this group understands that we might not all show up in an on topic vehicle as so often many of the cars are being modified. Its the love of the cars that pulls the group together for breakfast and most participants don't let the truth stand in the way of a good story. I don't post a great deal on this forum but I do read many of the posts. My sense is that most of us are car guys (and gals) with a Cayman problem and that if one of us showed up in somthing else there might be some kidding but nobody would be offended.

My two cents

Yeah sorry about that Heckler, I felt real bad. That meet just fell on it's a$$. Nobody in the Midwest area ever seemed really bothered so I just gave up trying in the end.

I promise that if there is an official GTG I will be there. I think Lake Geneva would be a great place to have a meet. But either way I will be out (as long as I am in town of course).

I sold the CS though remember so I will be driving the GT3. Hopefully I will still be welcome.

We need some more ideas like this to do a gtg - I think the first thing should be some kind of coffee and cars deal in the north section of the Zone. I'm looking out my window at yet another blizzard, so let's give it a week or so to melt and then let's set something down. And yes, Silent Will, I, personally, would LOVE to see that GT3.

The weather in the Loop today made it hard to remember the last time I had the CS out. If we can pull together a Caymans, coffee and crullers event I'll do my best to make it.
