Dealers in the Chicagoland area

Looking for feedback about Cayman purchases made in the Chicagoland area. Specifically, Motor Werks of Barrington or Napleton of Westmont. These are the closest two dealers to my house, so they are in the running. Positive or negative feedback welcome about your buying experience. Any other dealer locations / recommendations in the area also welcome. Please PM me.

Thanks.

I bought my car in August from Motor Werks. The experience was generally positive, no hassles. They found the car that I wanted and had it shipped in from another state. My salesman was Ken Betts, who is a pretty experienced Porsche guy. I've had the car in for service one time and that was OK. The provide loaners, and although I wasn't too excited about the quality of the loaner they provided it's nice that they do.

I bought an Infiniti and a BMW from Motorwerks when I lived in Chicago and found their service to be good and pricing to be quite fair (on those brands). My wife actually crashed a loaner car from them and they were very nice to deal with about that. They gave her a new loaner that night.

I did not order my Porsche from them as I now live in Minneapolis.

Good Luck!

I had a nasty experience with Westmont (napleton) Porsche a few P-cars back, long story short I had a Boxster S that took 3 RMSs and a motor replacment in the first month of ownership, and I live 2 hrs from the dealer. No sympathy, rude service, horrible deal for me. Great service before the sale, after they wouldn't even return my calls or emails!

Try the Porsche Exchange in Highland Park, ask for Larry Lacoste. Best dealer in the area. I recently grabbed 3 Cayennes from him. Highly suggested. I would have bought my CS there, but they didn't have the exact options I wanted on the cars that were there in stock so I had to drive to Stoddard in Ohio (great experience too!).

a great tthing about the exchange is that they will work with the modded caymans...just dont buy from them because they overprice. I had to learn the hard way after spending 20 grand on my cayenne (biggest mistake in my life).

The Porsche Exchange in Highland Park is without a doubt the best dealer in all of Chicago. I bought my Cayman there 2 weeks ago. I work over 70 hours a week they were able to do everything but sign the papers via email. Every other dealer I tried to communicate with wanted me in the shop. When it came to picking up the car, I went in early Saturday morning and was out of their shop is less than one hour. Faris was my sales person, and he is a Cayman S owner himself. Another fun fact about the dealer...they sold 10 Carrera GTs last year.

Another thing...the price I received on the Cayman was lower than I had seen any dealer willing to negotiate. Name them a price and they'll be up front with you. No BS from those guys.

the exchange has the BEST service and service hours they work whenever they can!!!! I am thinking about getting an A4 2.0t from them in the next month for snow since my red wrangler is rolling on 33's...I feel so gangsta. I need a car so I can use my 15 inch titanium sub. I love pissing off the quiet town of HP

The Exchange is by far the best dealership I have ever worked with.

I had a C4S that I bought elsewhere, had problems with and they treated me like I was their best customer. from then on I have no problem making the hour plus drive to get their quality of service.
Faris was easy to deal with before , during and after the sale of the car.
I am in St Charles and looked at going to Napleton to look at cars ( it was closest to my house) They were extremely aggressive in trying to sell me what I did not want. I never considered Motorwerks. No reason other than I was so impressed by the way The Exchange took care of me

Thanks. So far a lot of good things have been said about The Porsche Exchange. I think that warrants a visit. They seems to have a decent selection -- at least according to their online inventory. I have been to MotorWerks twice and to Napleton twice. MotorWerks seems very professional albeit somewhat intimidating due to the volume of luxury cars they handle and their location in Barrington. I feel like a small fish in a very big pond. Keep the comments coming.

I got my car at Loeber too. Tripp was my guy. He's actually the one helping me with the Turbo. They were very cool people. They just had their grand re-opening last month. New showroom and offices. It's nice in there. I wonder if they still have the yellow Ferrari?

I saw that Yellow 360 there...it was nice..it would be great to get a Ferrari as my next car, but a 6-speed Gallardo is the one I would really want...

I've seen a Gallardo up close (twice actually) at a supercar meet a while back. I'll try to find those pictures and post 'em.

I worked with Ken Betts at Motorwerks as well, and he's a very knowledgable Porsche guy. I ended up buying a car from out of state though, so can't comment on his pricing. I like the Napleton dealership for service because they give you Cayman S loaner cars (Motorwerks will give you an Accord)

bought mine at napelton porsche in westmont, had great service and a great price, on saterdays they have class in the shop about your car and give you school at the track, where they fly out german porsche race car drivers to go with you on the track and have class room time. sorry to teoch 2005 for their bad experience.

The OP is old but this info is new(ish) to the thread.

Napelton visit 1-

Drove a Cayman S for the first time, very shortly after the first one arrived at the dealer. Very nice to us, and at that point we were happy that our closest dealer was so cool.

Napelton visit 2-

Actually there to buy a Cayman S. Sat down to start doing the dance. First off the salesguy was very dismissive of us. We are in our mid 40's and our trade was a 2002 BMW 330ci, so we were not kids just killing an afternoon. He was very unwilling to even do a search for the main options I wanted (Sport Chrono/PASM) but finally tried, but it was like pulling teeth.

Next we get to the trade appraisal, they started out at a price $4000 below what we were offered at Carmax and $6000 below what we ended up actually getting on trade for the new 2006 Subaru STi we bought later that day. Yes I know it seems odd I went from a Cayman to an STi, but at that point we decided to get a Cayman the next or one more year after, which is this year by the way **crosses fingers**.

We walked out, I know they need to make money, but the offer was so low it was insulting and we would not tolerate their attitude toward the transaction any further.

Motorwerks visit 1-

Short version, lowball on the trade, but nowhere near as bad as Napleton, something we could at least work with. BUT, incompetance on the salesguys part was the deal killer. Initially he was searching on CAYENNES for the options I wanted and of course was not getting any good matches. While he was taking a WEEK to figure that out I went on the internet and literally ran every dealer in the country and found many that were very close. I wanted to prove a point, not that I was pissed or anything here LOL. He also never got back to me about a couple issues I wanted addressed with the TPMS/COST of a winter set of wheels, the guy was just lazy and sloppy, so the deal never finalized.

Motorwerks visit 2-

Just a few weeks ago we went up to look at a used 2006 that had what I wanted. Price was a bit high and they were unwilling to "certify" the car, which made me wary of that vehicle, so we passed. But not a bad experience overall.

Concours Motors Milwaukee phone/visit 1-

Called a few weeks ago and got a price on a new 2007 they had- Concours Motors, Inc. | New Vehicle Info which appears to be still there.

The Porsche sales manager gave me a price, actually a good one, over the phone, which I wrote down and confirmed with him at that instant. We drove up 2.5 hours and took a look at it. They appraised the aformentioned STi for a trade and he came back with a decent starting price, actually a fair starting point, all seemed promising!

Then he states the price of the Cayman, $1000 higher than he quoted on the phone hmmmmm. NO DEAL dude, I will not tolerate dealer shananigans, we walked, he did call us ASAP as we were driving away to see what could be worked out. But I will not put money in the pockets of guys/dealers like that. $1000 bucks is not that much and IF he would have started with that price on the phone, we likely could have put the deal together, but again, I am not dealing with people like that, period.

Part of it was my fault I suppose. I should have had him FAX a confirmation of the price before we drove up there, lesson learned.

There is one at Orland that looks good. I hope to go take a drive this Saturday, wish me luck!!!

Although it will be hard putting break-in miles on it before the next weekend....dilemma.

I work in the Napleton service department, so I'm kind of shooting myself in the foot, but as far as I've seen I think Loeber or someone else may be a better place to go. The service department is great at Napleton and the technicians are very good at what they do, but the salesmen are just ***holes. I feel bad about saying that, but its true. They couldn't care less about the customer, and for some reason think they are above everyone at the dealership. They couldnt tell a Porsche from an Acura if one sat on their head!

Best of luck choosing where to go, it is true Napleton will give a Cayman loaner car, which is nice. We take pride in our work on the vehicles, I can't say the same for the salesmen though...
