Silicon Valley International Auto Show 2008

Anyone going?

The show is at McEnery Convention Center in San Jose from January 10 thru 13.

I am thinking about dropping by Santana Row then heading over to the Convention Center on Saturday morning.

Just saw the TV add this morning. I'll probably go Thursday evening. The promoters throw in a free one year subscription to Motor Trend Magazine if you purchase tickets using their website.

Thanks for the advice. I will save the fuel for something else on Saturday.

Where was Porsche?

Attended the auto show on opening night yesterday. If you're considering visiting this weekend, be advised that Porsche is a no show! An auto show employee indicated Porsche simply didn't appear as expected. Who knows if that's the accurate story...

Couple of quick take-aways:
1. I was unexpectedly impressed by the Saturn line up. Their design styling, use of materials, mileage ratings (several hybrids were on display) and pricing are highly competitive to the Asian brands. I'd never considered Saturn as a domestic brand DD, but will in the future.

2. Ford, Chevy, Buick, etc. are all about SUVs. Their cars get lost amongst the big iron.

3. The Audi R8 and Nissan GT drew sizable crowds. Beyond its beautiful brakes, the GT doesn't look any better in person. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder....

4. Honda purposely didn't list prices on any of their vehicles. I observed people questioning the Honda sales folks about it with a bit of dissatisfaction.

4. Watching people take close up pictures of "M" badges on BMWs was a hoot. Am I missing something here?
