GMG in Santa Anna (714) 432-1582 specializing in Porsche, talk to James. Check out the service center state of the art.

Re: Good alignment shop in Los Angeles

It depends on where in LA you are located.

Los Angeles Area:

Steve Alarcon at Suspension Specialties (Johnson's Alignment) in Torrance:

Suspension Specialties (Johnson’s Alignment)
19056 Hawthorne Blvd.
Torrance, CA 90503
Steve Alarcon (310) 991-3930

Steve has done several spring/shock/control arm installations and alignments on local Caymans and his guys know what they are doing. He is also much more reasonably priced than most/all other shops in the area.

Steve is a respected Porsche Owners Club racer and local suspension guru (read this link for recent testimony Viewing a thread). He will take the time to understand how you plan to use the car and will set the alignment spec accordingly. He does the alignments quite old school (no computer) in standard alignment shop so you need to be comfortable with this. CCC4321, Naybor, me and others can all attest to his work.

In Orange County:

Dwain Dement at Vision Motorsports in Laguna Hills:

Vision Motorsports
22681 Granite Way
Laguna Hills, CA 92653
(949) 770-2888

Vision is probably the leading competition Porsche tuner in SoCal. Dwain and his team have done nothing but excellent work on my car and have done alignment work for several Cayman Club members.

Personally, I would not go anywhere near G*G. PM me for my reasons.

Cheers,

Not a recommendation, but these guys are on my list for any tire needs or alignments because of their reputation and close proximity to me. Every time I drive by it looks like a car show in their lot with performance cars, usually a few Porsche. Haven't used them yet for any services... So, I am curious what others might have found out...

Cheers,
See, by moving this here, I knew it would only be a matter of minutes before Krokodil would drop by to give out some great SoCal advice... thanks, D...

I know the owner, Jon Stokes. He runs a lurid green Caterham in NASA SoCal TT. Cool guy.

Another Thumbs up for Dwain. Went to their shop today for the first time and had to do a minor tire repair. Great guy, very cool cars around the shop. Dwain will be doing my alignment next when I have the time to drop it off.

Anyone have any updates on Suspension Specialties in Torrance? I have been trying to contact someone there for several weeks now for an appointment to install lowering springs, and all I ever get is a voice mail message. Also, nobody has returned any of the messages I have left.

Has Suspension Specialties gone out of business or moved or something?

Interpol,

I know that Steve has not moved or gone out of business. The number provided above is Steve's mobile. It is strange that he has not returned your call.

Try the Johnson's alignment main number at 310.370.6301.

Also, if you PM me with your number I will see if I can contact Steve and have him call you.

Cheers,

I'll be seeing Steve tomorrow in the AM to have my CS tech inspection for this weekends POC event. I'll give him your cell number Interpol if you'd like, your #'s the same?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the offer. Currently I'm out of town on vacation so I'll shoot you a PM when I return next week.

Thanks.

Thanks for the phone number Krokodil. Just to follow up, I managed to get a hold of Steve today at that number and got all my questions answered. Just on the phone he seems like a really great guy.

Now to find a set of H&R or Eibachs....

Interpol,

Good that you found Steve. We saw him this weekend at the POC Cup Races and let him know you were trying to contact him.

Cheers,

Re: Good alignment shop in Los Angeles

Thanks for giving Steve the heads up. I found out on Monday that I wasn't needed at work, so I gave Steve a call and he was able to accomodate me same-day for the spring install. You guys are right, he's a real stand-up guy.

After installing the Eibachs and performing the alignment, Steve took my car out for a test run and came back marveling at the 2009 CS. Apparently it was his first time in a 2009 and he felt that the thing was a real go-kart, almost on par with a GT3-RSR he'd driven before! High praise indeed!

Anyway, Steve and his crew got the whole thing done in a little over 5 hours and for $600. I'm joining the rest of you in highly recommending Johnson's Alignment for any suspension needs/installs in SoCal.

Interpol,

Excellent. It is great to here, but not surprising, that Steve and his crew took good care of you. Steve is well respected in the POC and will often take the time to fix competitors cars at the track, between sessions, asking for nothing in return.

Cheers,
